You know wags the hell with sustainability, lets just keep going out for a rip with no rules and everything will just work out right? Kinda like the deer hunting in ND. I mean why protect the top lake in the midwest with the heaviest fishing pressure?

Twer just a question. I'd like to know what your solution is.

Here is an oxymoron; The NDGF writes an article stating that released fish rarely get re caught, then they turn around and tag fish hoping they get recaught down the road for their studies.

I'm guessing recapture rate of tagged fish would provide data to base future management decisions upon. Just a hunch though.:;:huh

Since we're talking about rules, I saw a young-ish gentleman shore fishing recently. Two lines in the water, and was fixing to cast out another. I mentioned to him, casual-like, that G and F frowns on such behavior. I was told "oh, that's alright, there's no bait on that first one". I mentioned, casual-like, that that likely won't make any difference to the authorities.

I believe I'm correct, right? I mean, I've been told to not even let more than two lines touch the water. That it's better to be safe, than sorry. I personally have no desire to raise the dander of any officer.

I thought they changed the law and you can run 4 poles from shore now days?? I guess I am a criminal. :;:huh

Never mind, I rechecked and it is only 2 lines while shore fishing. I will reel the other two in now. hehe

I only use one pole, but it has 47 hooks on it.. and some perch eyeballs, and a hot dog for the pike

Broad shouldered 14's up to 20 is my target size. However, when those 28's hammer that crank bait and the last treble is buried in the throat, that one gets filleted too. The bigger fish don't taste as good as them little'ins, but they go really well in salads or fish tacos where you have some stronger spices to liven things up a bit. I don't get to bent out of shape about what size folks want to keep as long as they eat what they keep. Those guys that keep walleyes, regardless of size, and let them sit in the freezer getting freezer burned and then thrown in the garbage kind of ruffle my feathers somewhat. Other than that, keep whatever and enjoy a good meal.

15"- 21" fish goes in the live well. The rest are released unless its caught by one of the kids.

When fishing with a buddy last summer, he caught a big pike, lost it at the boat. I then a couple minutes later caught that same big pike and we were able to get it to the boat and unhook my junk and retrieve his lost hooks out of it.
We did not net it the first time, the second time a net was able to be used, and afforded us time to recapture the lost tackle.

so there is that.

Great story. Rich and compelling

The odds of a pike rebiting are very slim according to the NDGF...
