The camping and vacation threads going got me wondering about what kind of camping.

This is multiple choice for those that do more than one.

2010 Jayco Eagle with 3 slides. This will be our second summer of camping with it......................................... Well I guess I wouldn't call it camping beings it has all the comforts of home, only smaller, and the wife needs it hooked up to electricity.

As I get older I have more comforts with me. Hunting is different though. It's only been five years since I last hiked to the top of a mountain and cut the lower limbs from a 15 ft spruce so I could slide in underneath and sleep. Most of my hunting camps now are a 17 foot covered trailer with a furnace. Camping with the wife is a 37 ft 5th wheel with three push outs. One winter in Texas, and one in Arizona. I don't like to stay in one place longer than a week or so.

5th wheel. flush toilet, refrigerator, stove, a soft made bed, and the ease of it all.
I have slept in tents, pickups, my car, a cabin, fish house, etc. I will take any of it, but much prefer a restful night in the comforts of a heated/cooled, regular bed of my 5th wheel

26ft travel trailer with all the comforts of home when the family goes powered by a Honda as I really don't like the shit show in the camp grounds. Sleep in my topper when it's just me. It's amazing that when the family goes we have to have steak or ribs with all the fixin's and I can go with a bag of chips and some hot dogs. Oh and a bottle of captain.

Wife and I tented or slept under the stars for about 15 years and then we bought a 1972 Avion travel trailer and use that on occasion but still mix in tent, under the stars and on the pontoon a couple times under the stars but that was not too comfy with all the mosquitos so we stick with the tent from the toon to keep from developing some exotic skeater transmitted disease.

From the mid 80's up until 5-6 years ago our yearly deer camp was wall tents and wood stoves. Every thanksgiving we'd head for Paul Bunyan State forest in MN, set up camp and then hunt the black powder season for a week. The first few years i went, it was ass deep snow and cold as hell; but it was worth it getting to hear the old timers' stories every night. Unfortunately, most of our camp has passed on now; and it got to be too much work for not enough reward. The last few years we pulled campers up there.

I am glad i wasn't old enough to experience the first few years when they stayed in a teepee with a fire ring. Apparently, no matter how many cords of wood you burn its still cold and miserable.

I like to have a bed ac and a shower. If I can get a camper in there I'm getting a hotel. Unless I'm hunting then a tent is fine.

Its all tent for me with an occasional night in a topper. Though we own a nice little pop up camper that we rarely use other than a couple hunting weekends in the badlands.

Question for those of you who camp at RV parks, state parks etc. Honestly what is the allure? Is it all about being comfortable with electricity, fresh water and paved roads?

I just don't get having to live around my neighbors all week and then go and vacation in a trailer park on the weekends. But I don't like most people all that much either.

I think most people that camp in state parks, RV parks, etc. are there for other reasons like Fishing and that is just their place to stay on the weekends. It has nothing to do with "camping". I do see some people that just "camp" in these places and don't own a boat or anything. They literally just sit in a campground all weekend, that I don't understand.

For me i will do a tent for a night or two, but do prefer a pop up although i don't own one. Not sure i will ever own an actual camper. They seem like so much work and its amazing what people spend on those f'n things.

I've also found myself pondering the same set of questions. If I were to ever get a camper, it'd be for a place to sleep, cook, or wait out a storm. If those three things are not occurring, I'm in the boat. When I see the big 5th wheel with a bunch of slide outs and a satellite dish sitting out front, I have to laugh. I'd honestly be ok in a topper but I've also slept in the boat a couple of times. Although it wasn't by choice. I failed to fall asleep before the sleep apnea - laden old timers at the cabin. Those boys could shake the foundation loose.

I have to laugh at the guys in the tents when its 40 mph wind, and pouring rain. I am sitting in the 5th wheel getting a smoker from the old lady, while watching the 3 stooges, a pan of deer sausage on the stove, and an ice cold whiskey seven in my hand with the AC keeping me cool...

I spent a few years in the tent, and sure as hell would likely not camp much if that was the option.

We set up at the lake and spend the day in the boat, or the beach if its a bum around day, and then fix a gourmet meal and sit around the campfire in the evening. The ability to keep oneself clean, and cool while sleeping is priceless, regardless of weather.
