With all this talk about trolling, getting boats out, and scratching the itch; I have a question for the floor about depth finders. More so, how many are on your rig and why?#$%^&>

One on the dash, and one up front where I spend 99% of my fishing time

3...I know why I have 2. One for the bow, one for the stern. The third seemed like a good idea at the time. Agreeing to buy things from friends while you're out drinking isn't a great idea however.

Two. Upgraded to a Humminbird Helix 5 when it was on fire sale over Black Friday 2016. Then have the 90s Eagle on the bow that's still compatible with my 90s Minnkota trolling motor. You get to see the sweet, pixelated little fishies and just hope they are actually fish and not submerged turds or half-sunk beer cans.

3. One on the bow and two on the console. The two on the console I have one used for mapping (gps) and the other is used for finding fish. Guy I bought my boat from hated using a split screen.

I miss the "Ba-Deep!" sound when you had those 90s electronics in auto-fish-detect mode. Can a guy still do that on modern HDS stuff? Might be handy when trolling clean bottoms - to alert a guy to marks after he falls asleep due to boredom.

Two. One with the gps, lake maps, and all the bells and whistles when I drive the boat and one with just depth on the trolling motor on the bow where I fish. I find what I'm looking for with the lake map and then fine tune with the trolling motor as lake maps tend to change a bit.

I have a HDS 7 and FL-18 at the bow and HDS 8 and FL-18 at the counsel. As much as I like the HDS, the Vexilar FL-18 is still the best fish finder out there. If I had the money, I'd replace the HDS' with a pair of Helix 9's.

Helix 10 SI on the console for mapping/sonar/imaging, and a helix 9 DI on the front for sonar/DI...I like using down imaging trolling, because then I know if its a tree I need to reel my spinner up for or just a clutter of shit in the water. Contemplating adding a helix 7 chirp on the console for dedicated chirp sonar while using the helix 10 for DI/SI/Mapping. You can only fit so much info on a 10" screen at once and still be able to read it easily

4....HDS Touch Big Screen in the dash for my side-scan and down imaging, Humming Bird mounted above for map/ I-Link Control. HDS 8 mounted upfront which is plugged into the sonar of my trolling motor and linked with my HDS Touch for down scan/side scan/ sharing way points. Humming Bird mounted up front which is linked with console bird unit so I can control the I-Link and share waypoints between the two also.

Hummingbird depth highlight feature and lake off-set feature = cat's pajama's!

I run 3 on the big rig and 2 on the tiller(almost never sit in the front of the tiller). I much prefer having 2 graphs for my running position. One is always on mapping with the chip of choice and the other runs sonar or side/down scan. So much nicer not having to split screens or bounce between sonar and map windows.

ZERO who needs one with all the thousands of dollars you all have invested. Just have a good pair of 10x50's to see where your all at catching fish. HA
