Few years back I worked on a large powerline job up there and had to walk back to the truck one morning to get extra supplies, about 1/4mile. There was fresh snow from the night before and as I grabbed what we needed I looked down and realized there were fresh wolf tracks around the truck since it had been parked on the logging road for about 2hrs. That was a scary feeling with no sidearm and only defense was a few 10" pole barn spikes and 3lb hammer with no radio, not that it would do any good anyways.

The remote and challenging jobs we used to do were fun, in a twisted way, but man there were many times we really should have been allowed to carry in wolf and bear country.

Biggest problem I see with that situation: If the taking a break snowmobiler had the wrong person taking video at the wrong time, it could look like he was chasing the wolves with his sled. Wolves wandering around out on the ice during the day would be plenty enough reason to stop and shoot a little cell-phone video, taken out of context, it could be REALLY problematic.

The last wolves I saw in person came trotting out across freshly harvested wheat stubble @ 10:30 in the morning. There were 2 pickups, a tractor, and a combine all running and driving around doing their thing. The wolves trotted out as if they owned the place and didn't have a care in the world. There was 4 of them. They trotted out @ under 50yds and were in the open out to ~500yds then back into the woods.

I don't feel like researching right now but how many attacks on humans by wolves have been documented?

Mixed thoughts on this. On the one hand it's a rare encounter and a great pic, but on the other hand it shows large wild predators with a total lack of fear towards humans. I'm leaning toward not liking this situation.

That's a neat pic.
I called in 5 awhile back and had to jump up when they got to about 30 feet. They turned fast but only went maybe 30 yards, stopped, paced, pissed n woofed. They had no fear and the .243 was ready to rock iffn they advanced!

See many deer tracks on your tour?

I'am afraid that there would have been a whole lot of shoveling.

Makes me wonder if they haven’t begun to associate people being on the lake with dumped bait, dead fish, other food parts, etc, that being why they are so interested in this individuals location.

I have a hard time believing some second hand story (no offense to the OP) really explaining what the dogs were doing. Circling could have been simply going down wind like deer do to get a better sense of what they’re dealing with.
