I know there's a previous thread just below this on ice auger's I was hoping someone can help me clarify some things

I hear people saying propane and electric augers don't work good in the "cold"

What is considered "cold" where they wont function properly 20°?? 0°??? -25°

Id say I'm a fair weather fisherman cuz All I have is a pop-up hub shelter but if conditions are right... like last year I was out on a -10° day but no wind and sunny.....

I'm nervous at buying one and having cold related issues with no way to really warm up the propane or battery. I ONLY walk out on the ice.... Never drive... Don't care how thick.... Just a personal safety precaution...

I have seen propane augers left outside the fish house in -5 degrees and not start. My 2 stroke Eskimo was the only auger to start in -25 degree weather on Winnipeg a few years back.

Used a propane Jiffy a few years back when my POS jiffy(gas) wouldn't start. If I remember right it was around 0-10 degrees out. We were lucky to get one hole out of the auger before we had to pull the cylinder off and warm it up. Major pain in the ass. Currently have a Eskimo z71 and it's been flawless other than once had the clutch go out. I now own a permanent and may consider a k-drill at some point but definitely wouldn't get rid of my gasser.

Never had any problem with the ION Battery , always left it in pickup, but if your walking out, maybe try putting the Battery in your pocket with some hand warmers, same with Propane they make a sock to fit over the tank, just put some hand warmers in it with the tank, don't take much heat for propane to work

For "Iron Man" ice fishing without a shelter, I've put the battery to my ION inside my bibs. Fishing inside a shelter, I put the battery inside the shelter close to the heater where it won't get wet. I've kept it in the truck cab as well with no heat and it did just fine, but prefer to keep it at least semi warm if I can.

Wow thanks everyone.. I have an Eskimo stingray right now... I've had to replace something on it about every year... Found out the hard way you don't wanna store fuel in it over the summer... I got cracked hoses this year.... But it's always ran awesome once I got it fixed and running ... Cept for that one time I put the blades on upside down.... Had a panic attack on the ice till I realized what I did and lucky had tools with me

Nevermind the review I see the tab is gone for that. V any insite where a guy can find the old reviews?
