I fell down an internet rabbit hole this morning and ended up looking at info about the James River. I could not find anything stating its origin or headwaters. Just that it 'arises' in Wells County. Does anyone know where it actually begins? A pond? A lake? Parking lot? I figured someone on here must know.

Looking on Google Earth it looks like the Sheyenne River runs about 10 miles west of the starting point of the James. They both run north for a short distance before turning east then south. Must be a high ridge of land on that neck between the two rivers to keep them apart.

If your traveling from Harvey to Manfred you drive over the James River. Its only about 3 ft wide. If you follow it N.E. its only about 20 miles to the head of the river. Its really hard to tell where it starts.
