Wondering if you guys could give some pointers or right setups for kids on the river. (no snag) I usually take my 9 year old and it gets pretty frustrating for him as well as me. We want to spend more time putting fish in the boat than rigging up.#$%^&>

Depends on what river. I give my kids bobber rigs when they are at the river with me. A lot of times they catch just as many fish as I do.

I have found yelling at them, and losing it, doesn't help one damn bit.

Anchor, throw out lindys.

PS - tie rope to front of boat, not back. Make sure you anchor in the middle of a big back of boats that are drifting ;)

The best way I've found to keep kids from snagging up when river fishing is to either use a bobber rig and stay above the snags or use a HUGE amount of weight and keep the bait stuck in one place. Using those no roll river sinkers in 1oz or better fight the current pretty well in the Sheyenne, but I haven't a clue how they work in the Missouri or other rivers. Maybe the catfish guru's can chime in with a bit of advice. Good Luck!!

Find a clean sandbar to fish behind. Fish for a while and when the kids get restless let them play on the sandbar.

My boy is 11 the last year or two he fishes how I fish. If he gets snagged he ties a new one on and gets back at it. Is he getting snagged more than you? If so figure out why. To much line, waving the rod around.

If you are jigging you could try a drop shot rig with a cylinder weight(much more snag free than a round weight).
