Looking to pull my permanent shack to Audubon. Can you get around on the ice or is access limited due to drifting snow? Need some info before I make the 2 hour drive.

No one replied, which is unfortunate as I could have saved myself a lot of frustration. I wound up going to Audubon. I tried to pull the permanent shack to a spot at a certain depth on the lake and I got stuck twice. I wound up fishing a lot shallower than I wanted and consequently did not have any luck catching anything. For those anglers that turn a blind eye to someone who is stuck on the lake and do not offer any assistance, good day to you.

On a related note, does anyone know of someone that hires out snow removal (utv/pickup with a blade) on Lake Audubon? If I could of had someone push me a lane it would have saved me hours of digging and wear and tear on my truck and shack.

I didn't have an answer for you so I wasn't going to reply. There have been half a dozen topic or fishing reports about Audubon in the last few weeks. Figured you would have seeen them if you were planning on going. Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

Not sure how that happened. I was up there on Saturday and there was a whole bunch of lanes plowed on the lake. Starting from Totten trail ramp you could drive straight out or a path to the east. There must have been 200+ ice houses out there. I saw some shallow and some set up as deep as 45'fow.

Were you trying to get to some of the areas that weren't plowed? I wasn't hauling an ice house but could drive my truck almost anywhere I wanted.

I was grateful that for the access roads that were plowed. But as you mentioned there were a lot of shacks on the ice and packed very close together based on the roads that were created. I was trying to not to add to the congestion and still fish in a suitable area. And yes, if it was just my pickup I could have made it to the spot I was after. Towing the shack made it impossible though.

We need to create a go fund me to pay for more plowing on area lakes. It really helps a lot when people use their own time and equipment and make it fishable for the rest of us. We should set up a free will donation box so the retire folk can buy a plow truck!

I have a 4 wheeler with a plow on it. Do you think this would work? What part of the lake are you located? Was thinking about coming up there this weekend.

I don't think it would. The snow is pretty hard. My cousin had his pickup plow out there and THAT struggled.

Do you have chains on all 4 wheels? I only have them on the back tires. Have a couple of sandbags for weight.

Was there yesterday to get the permy and move it to Crooked. I was in an area unplowed, by the cabins. Got stuck right away driving like an idiot. Then had buddy check snow in front of us as we went, and it was smooth sailing. We probably went out a mile and a half.

Thanks V. So I am guessing the fishing hasn't been so hot on Audubon? Haha

I don't think it has been too bad. It is not my favorite. Too much structure to key in on them consistently imo. I have seen many folks with good success in 30-45 fow, though. Even some nice perch being caught.

Took the shanty to Crooked to get he kids out.
