Anyone hunt with one? I've had a crush on levers for years. Thinking time to buy one in 30.30 cal. I like the winchester 94s best but open to marlin 336. Any leads? thanks

Love levers. Have more than my share. When I get a second choice doe tag, I'll hunt with an iron site lever. So far I've hunted with 94 win in 30-30 and 45LC, Win model 95 in 30-06, and a whitney-kennedy 44-40. Next will be a 32 special.

There is 32 or maybe 35 for sale on Rokslide.com. Nice one. I'm looking for a 30.30. Prefer 94 but open to look at marlin.

I have an old 30-30 that was passed down from Grandpa. I've used it a few times since it's a little more of challenge to shoot something with open sites. I also have a Henry 22 that I absolutely love.

Got 3 notches on a lever action for deer. I love'em. Open sights brings be back to my red rider BB gun days when I would terrorize the local critters to no end. I prefer the 94 cuz it makes me think I'm John Wayne when I draw down on oneathem desperado does. (Grin)

Yep I own the trusty Winchester model 94 tirty-tirty lever action pre 64 that used for several years when we hunted in bigger groups pushing more bush up here in the Pembina gorge. Best bush gun ever

Started deer hunting with a Winchester 94 30/30 my dad bought new in the late 70's. When I was a kid I shot a couple deer with it but never did care for it to much. Just before my dad passed away he gave it to my son but he has yet to use it deer hunting.

Over the past 60 plus years I have had 9 lever actions. 5 Winchesters 4 Marlins. The Winchesters were all pre 64s. One older long gun in 25/35. One in 32 Win Special. Sold those two gave away 3 in 30/30. The Marlins had one newer one when they put one out for the 218 Bee. Traded that because I wasn't happy with the accuracy. Had two Marlin 336T, the Texan model had the straight lever. Gave one away sold the other one.

All were enjoyable to shoot. Had a peep sight one of the Winchesters and one of the Marlins.

If I wanted one now it would be the 336 in the Texan model.

I'm not particularly nostalgic, I want as much utility from a rifle as I can get. If forced to lever-gun, I'd BLR in an '06-based or 308 based cartridge. If I had to go "Classic/Old" lever, I'd Sako Finnbear. If it had to be "Classic-er" I'd Savage 99 preferably in .284 to again get everything I could out of it.

Beyond nostalgia, I can't think of any reason I'd shoot a rimmed cartridge from a centerfire rifle. That said, I do still lust a Sako 78 in .218 Bee.

Brings back great memories! My dad bought me my first deer rifle way back in the day. Model 99 in 243 with iron sights. Shot many a deer with that damn gun. We did a lot of walking and pushing for deer back then. To this day, I am still better shooting iron sights at a running deer than having a scope. Not the smoothest lever gun out there but it sure did the job for me.

Own three Henry levers in 22 and 17 and they are fun to shoot. Much like the Red Rider BB gun from my youth. The 17 really does the job on my garden pests. LB

Can't beat a 336 for beating brush. Which is pretty much its job pushing deer during the final weekend of the season with other family members. I'd say 75+% of individuals in my extended hunting party have a Marlin over a 94 or other alternative when it comes to levers/backup gun.

I also have a Marlin 444 I got from my grandfather. Cannon for black bear hunting!

I got a Henry big boy in 41 mag. Shot a doe with it last year with a Keith style molded bullet at 250 yards, she went about 75 yards before running out of gas. Super super fun gun to shoot and plan on shooting many more deer with it

I got a Winchester 30-30 from a deceased uncle, as well as a couple boxes of shells. Noticed some shells had a dimple in the primer.
Didn't really want to mess with getting the firing pin replaced so traded it in for something I wanted.

Love those lever action too.
As i read the tread thought i should go into the basement and check on guns as i had not look for a while.

Open safe (worse place to put guns) and heater was not working.
Then went to those on lock on wall. Could not find keys for all.

It was the winter of 66-67. My second cousin and i were living in Fargo going to school. After the fall quarter he was put on probation and i was given a warning. The winter quarter we decided to drink in our apartment and look at some books.
Well, at the time Schlitz (Jos Schlitz Brewing Co) was the brand. Made a pop top chain that winter that i still have. Over 100 feet long with over 1200 tops. It was the best of times.
At the end of the winter quarter he was asked to leave and i was put on probation. His GPA was .0000 and mine was better at .9 something.
Yes, it was the best of times with many memories.
He ended up in five colleges to get his degree and i finish it out at Fargo. He was not drafted but i was.

Anyways i also kept one can of Schlitz from that time that was sitting on the ledge of my gun rack. Somehow it got two small pin holes in the bottom and leaked all the beer unto the rack and a couple of guns. With a wet rag and elbow grease was able to get off.

But i love my model 92 in 25-20 (same kind as shot the jORDAN BUCK) and also my 65 in 218 bee with a peek site. Have a 95 in 30-40 krag, 1895 in 30 ARMY, a 73 in 32-20, a marlin in 219 Zipper, 94 in 375, a 38-55 in 94 and a few 30-30. Oldest is Marlin1893 from1905.
Someday hope to again get a Savage 99 model e in 250-3000 that i once had. It just they are getting so high price.
However, for hunting nothing beats a bolt action due in part to the bullets one can get compare to a lever action. My Krag bolt action i feel can unload and load itself by itself. It is that smooth.

Anyways have enclose a picture of most of them.
