I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado. It has recently not allowed me to fill the gas tank from the pump. The pressure is built up in the tank and the fuel pump will click off and not pump gas. Everything I have read pointed me toward the vent valve solenoid which is the pressure control for the tank and filler tube. I did replace that this weekend, but it still does not fill. Does the code need to be reset for the new one to engage? My check engine light is still on, but it has been on for years now for other things. Is there something else connected to this that could be bad? Let me know thoughts as I will be pulling the box off again...........

There is a canister under the box between the frame which has two lines running into it those lines are plugged.

I had that happen once after busting a bunch of snow on the lake and it was very cold. All I had to do was thaw it out because it was packed with ice.

The charcoal canister will likely need to be replaced as well. What code is it pulling? P0046 or P0049?

if you drive any gravel them canisters fill up with dust and throw a code, their is a kit to reroute them under the hood. ive had 2 chevys throw that code and to be honest, i just jumped the sensor.
the filling issue is probably a plugged vent. not sure if there is another hose that comes up from the tank to where you fill.

I haven't pulled the lines from the canister yet. That is my next step and also the canister if it needs replacing. I don't have to pull the box for the canister, but for the vent valve I replaced, it is a must other than dropping the tank (Not doing that again). I am going to pull the codes again once I get it to town. I have been filling as much gas in the tank as possible from a 2.5 gallon can. The other thing that sucks about this issue is that my gas gauge on the dash has not worked for some time. I have been using the trip meter and @ 200 miles I fill up and reset. Now I have no idea how much gas is in the tank and I drive 26 miles round trip everyday to get to town when I drive my truck.

and then complain about your ecobum only pulling in the mid teens like everybody I know that has 1

Complaining about milage atleast means thier trucks are running.

Op, If you pulled the box I assume the truck has been thawed out recently. I think Lunker is on the right track.

I only pull with my 6.7 diesel, which gets about what a truck should I guess. Mrs johnr has a Eco boost, but she doesn't pull anything with her Explorer, but I am sure if she did she would never mention the gas mileage she was getting, cause honey badger don't care.

Its all just in fun ribbing a fellow pickup truck owner, as I could care less what anyone else's preference is on brands. I was just funning ya.

I did hear that driving a Dodge will either turn you into a skater, or possibly queer though.. so there is always that anyway

I have a 2000 3/4 6.0. My gauge doesn't work either but I can fill gas without a problem. The biggest problem with mine is it is so hard starting most times especially after setting 5 minutes or more. I always have to cycle the key a couple times than it starts right up. Mechanic thinks it's the fuel pump causing both issues. I just fill it every so often. If it's on way empty with the low fuel light on, the tank is full. Drive a while and it goes to full and seems to work until near empty but I don't trust it. I fill at half tank or sooner if going further.

What Lunker said. Look at that charcoal or whatever it is canister 1st. If you overfill it can plug up also.

Like most of the irritating little problems on newer vehicles it's some sort of pollution control device fucking up.

The truck is stored in a heated garage so being frozen is a non issue. I will be going through the hoses and making sure the vent I replaced does have power.

get it rerouted to under the hood if its at all in the budget and you regularly run gravel. the problem will continue to rear its ugly head if you don't "fix" what should've never been a problem in the first place. i think this should've been a recall personally.

Have about same problem with my 2005 ford f250. Have a hell of a time putting gas in, it keeps clicking the filler nozzle off. Have to just dribble gas in. Luther Ford wants 850.00 to fix, said carbon filter is plugged and need to pull box off to get at it. Guess I will just keep dribbling.

I don't understand how they get away with the astronomical prices they charge once they have to pull the box or drop the fuel tank. I have done both on this vehicle now. I replaced the fuel pump by dropping the tank. I am by no means a mechanic, but me and a buddy had that job done in under 3 hours on the floor of my garage with cordless drills. The shops I took it to all wanted over 12 hundred for that job. I pulled the box off in an afternoon on this job.
I cant imagine how simple these both would have been if I was in an actual shop with the right tools, my god it pains me to think about it!!

just put a T in that rubber line and run it somewhere safe so you bypass the filter.
