The way I see it by going there were supporting the one resource they have.(tourism) I like to think every round of drinks I buy there keeps a little Cholo employed down there and not here! Same reason I tell my wife I need to buy a 6 pack of Corona each night.

We will be a stones throw away at St. John this winter. Heavier fishing gear will be with this year in order to get the last laugh on a Tarpon.

You better also bring a horseshoe, a rabbits foot, and a 4 leaf clover, damn things always shake the hook loose. I'd also recommend a 30-50 lb fluoro leader with a circle hook and a local live bait fish for your best chances. after you succeed with that, then try the lures and light tackle.

depends when your going ---- if dec-jan -- you might want to get as far south as possible. El nino is going to ruin florida weather / Bahamas weather. both unpredictable except in spring or early summer. I like the east side of MX. The turquoise water along with the warmer water temps. Might want to look at the other side of the equator to miss el nino completely. Cheap flights --and flights to purchase with miles --- cabo and cancun are on the top of the list. you can always get a ride to the playa area or take ferry over to cozumel. We stopped at Roattan (spelling) it was awesome -- nice little quiet island - but the airfare is probably high. 20150101_122135.jpg

They like Husky Jerks, but it sure is hard to stick a barb.

I say fuck Mexico. Florida keys is where it's at. They speak my language (for the most part) , use my currency, I need no passport and there are no layovers... 5 hours from boarding to the beach...

Take Vallarta off the list --- if it gets hit --- its going to be flattened.

4 hour flight from MSP to Cancun. 30 minute drive to the resort. On the beach with unlimited drinks in under 5 hours. Just sayin'.

So long as it stays away from Cabo, trips already booked and paid for.

I hope mrs johnr put insurance on this business

I seriously read many moons ago of the effectiveness of Texas rigged worms for Tarpon. Might be able to save some jack on more beers over Bombers.

Actually I don't guess I'd bother with the Texas hooks. Probably just a long shank 7/0 threaded through. Probably a better choice IMHO.
