Looking for some suggestions on some new hunting gear since I finally drew my 4C tag. Who has the Kiui jackets and whats your opinion on them? Also looking for a good packable tripod for my spotter. What is everyones thoughts on what weight level of wool baselayer to get? 7 years was a long time to wait, cant help but be a little excited. Anyone ever use horses for hunting out there?

I like my kuiu stuff. get a size bigger though.

Agreed, I have several Kuiu items that I really like but you do have to size up a bit. Also, have some UA RidgeReaper stuff that's solid as well. Have a Sitka 90% jacket. It also runs small. It's pretty decent but is not the warmest when you consider they hyped it as a jacket that could be used for 90% of all you hunting needs.

Which Kuiu jackets are you using? Was thinking about getting the Kenai.

If you're walking quite a bit, I would think that jacket would be fine. Sitting for long periods, I am not sure.

Other jacket question - Anyone hunt upland or ducks wearing a waxed jacket? I keep seeing Filson / Halo Waterfowl jacket ads and they just don't seem practical in ND, plus they are pretty pricey

I have the Super Down Jacket. I probably would have went with the Guide Jacket if I didn't already have the Sitka but the Kenai is a solid choice as well. I have guide pants and they're nice.

interesting. I wear nearly all solids in earth tones. Camo is overrated.

My plan is to bust it out to just take the chill off. I will have a sitka medium zip as base layer then traverse cold weather hoody and jet stream vest as needed will take clothes on and off as needed but feel pretty confident in Idaho i will stay warm. Now for out here i will have to add another layering option when we get real cold.

I don't think camo in the right pattern is overrated at all. The ability to break up your silhouette and not look like a dark blob is beneficial.

get some wool next to skin layers. shirt and boxer briefs for sure anyway. You can thank me later about the wool briefs. Ball comfort saver.

I have a deal setup with sitka,I know longer hunt big game and they have a great looking line up for cold weather,BUT if its anything like the light gear I ordered for warm weather and waterfowl I might hesitate spending the big money on gear made in china and they carry a hefty price tag,if infact that's the makers of they're white tail gear like my logo stuff and light outter wear.Seems like anything made in china, tiawan etc is cut for the smaller frame fellas just like the cars they import from japan.

Have some merino and i like sitkas new polygiene stuff better. I put it to the test last year wore it a week straight and no funk at all and it feels better on my sack region. Either one way is way better than cotton and what was available in years past

whitetails in treestand, absolutely i agree. Western big game... ehhh. Dont matter how much camo you have, if you mess up you will be busted. Play the wind, use the terrain, and dont skyline yourself. Plus a guy can often save a bunch of money buying earth toned "hiking or climbing" gear versus something branded specifically towards hunting. My opinion anyhow

I ordered all new kuiu stuff and it is a little snug with 32's. I thought about going to 34's but thats pretty big. I guess losing a bowling balls worth of weight is the answer.

i did the same thing. returned the 32's for 34's and they fit perfect. In the attack pants anyway

I got 34 in the sitka timberline and they are a little loose after losing some inches but with the built in belt and suspenders i like the fit.
