So it doesn't take a 80k fiberglass boat to catch big walleyes? Who knew! Congrats to the fisherman and big props for finally breaking the record.

So did he jump in the boat to get the picture?

Sawyer,
I’m pretty sure I know the guy. If so, it couldn’t have happened to a better person! Congrats to him!

Finally no more floating wallye BS. I'd be happy to shake that guy's hand and buy him a whiskey just for that part of it.

Sad thing is by beating it by only 1oz there is still a lot of room left considering the state of the Mo./Sak right now. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see it get beat again within a year or 2 after standing for 60 years. Thank god we finally have a legit record though!!

With the amount of smelt in Sak right now, I wouldn't be surprised either. High water and bait fish is a good combo for that lake. I have the feeling there are some monsters in there. Maybe a 17lbs+ fish? I know GF netted that one, was it last spring, or two years ago that was over 17?

The idea of catching a state record is not something I even think about so therefore I never look up what they are. That being said, what is the story of the record before this one that so many seem happy to have been broken?

This would have been the state record for many years but for the netted Wood Lake fish. Caught by my uncle during a cold day, early eighties by New Town. 15.4 pounds, they had to break ice to get the boat off shore. He is in heaven smiling today that the new state record was actually caught not netted.
