I was at State line today, and there was 12 inches of good solid ice. My niece's husband caught a hearing, her boy caught a 16 inch fat walleye. They said the youngest boy lost a 24 incher line broke. We were marking fish, they'd follow bait but rarely bite. There's a lot of guys fishing that area.

12” of ice? That guy with the ice castle sure is brave. On a lake maybe but not the river.

Seeing schools of shad swimming right under the ice. Two different guys fished all day yesterday and nothing . Lots of fish and bait

There was another BIG castle coming in minutes after photo taken. Someone took some equipment and made it nice to access the ice where everyone is parked. There was a snow bear out there too. I'm surprised no one drove truck with 12 inches. I'd drive my 86 Nissan

The fall bite sucked as well, we seen schools of baitballs all over. Hopefully we get a huge die off of them, maybe have a better year for a change

Oh, I heard a few guys chatting yesterday how a buddy was doing OK where we were. We had plenty checking out our bait on sonar, very few takers.

Cisco, lake herring, tullibee, all the same fish. Not to be confused with whitefish which are different and caught far less often.

Just drove from south of pollock to mobridge and the ice is black and has that late spring look. I could see alot of water on it from a couple miles away. Pastures are muddy so i hope people dont go tearing stuff up and getting access taken away
