Man some of the groups I saw out down there have some balls to push out onto the new ice on the main lake! Having to push past the thick line where the slush ice was jammed up on the old ice edge from a few days ago would be spooky as hell!
Still open areas south of shaw to Hanson bay as well.. Checked pollock bay out, iced over but looked real thin only one guy out and he was right offshore..
We're you the guy all by himself at 11 in the gray house? Just wandering because that person was the closest to the edge without crossing over the slush line.
I've finally been out and can give a first hand report on the ice. It's 8"- 9" on the east side of Yates. I fished the intake and was in 22' to 42' with a lot of current. Good solid clear ice. I feel pretty safe traveling on a 4 wheeler. I had a tape measure in my bucket and checked every hole I drilled.
Was straight across from you and it was between 10 and 12 on the flat south of the island and around 6 west of the island. Like your the ice was crystal clear and was the best ice I've been on this year. Have to cross 40 yards of pack ice though which is a bit of a bitch.
