Looking for information, or worse yet PayPal horror stories from individual users. I recently sold something for several k and the person made payment via PayPal. Has anybody ever had somebody try to reverse payment on them after the deal was done?

It's not so much physical property that will be transferred, it's more digital (think internet) so we're not talking about a vehicle or anything. However, once I complete the transfer of said goods, they are gone without me ever being able to recover them. The money has been put into my PayPal account, so that's done. What are the chances of this happening? Am I being paranoid?

The buyer has great reviews from the place he made the purchase from so it doesn't look like he's done anything shady in the past, and if he were to at this point it would ruin him on the selling platform where he conducts a large amount of business basically. He's made several transactions for almost $100k, seems legit I just don't want to get burned. It would be 3 years of tinkering on my part down the chitter.

I wouldn't be to worried if I was the guy selling. The guy buying is the trusting one. I have made many paypal transactions over the net with nary a problem. But then again they havn't been purchases of over $1000. I doubt I would make a multi-thousand dollar purchase over the net.

Call PayPal and make sure the transaction is legitimate. A couple years ago I was selling a car and got a paypal invoice from some guy that wanted me to ship the car to him on my dime. The PayPal invoice looked real but I called PayPal anyway. Turns out it was a scam. If you have any doubt, call up PayPal and check on the process.

I've bought and sold hundreds of things with PayPal over the last 15 years without any problems. Even helped a guy sell about 100 grand worth of stuff for beer money back in college. Like mentioned earlier, the buyer runs the risk the seller won't come through. As a seller, the ball is in your court.

Also, if you are worried about the cash in your PayPal account just move it to a bank or brokerage account right away.

Here's the ones I avoid, they say they saw your ad on XX, want to buy it, but can't come inspect it, want to pay via paypal, then they'll have a courier come pick it up. then when you start asking them questions like where they located and such, they quit communicating with you...hence..its a scam. I have never fell for one, but I can smell them for a 1000 miles away. I just have a knack for figuring out if the buyer is legit or not. Another trick I do is, tell them nothing gets sent or picked up till money gets transferred and cleared, takes about 10-15 days, they usually don't mess with you and you don't hear from them after you tell them that.

I just had one for my pool cue the other day...said he was on a base, couldn't come to inspect it but trusted what I said about it in the add wanted to pay via paypal and would have a courier come pick it up. I recieved this via text on phone, it was a SD number down by sioux falls, when I asked him where he was stationed...poof...no more communication.

If the deal is done and the buyer is happy, get that money into your bank account. If the buyer isn't happy, then there is a chance that they could attempt to reverse the payment, in which case PayPal WILL side with the buyer.

Just be sure your paypal acct is linked to a CC if buying something and not your bank acct. I bought something once sent payment to the wrong e-mail address which were identical except one had an underscore instead of a dash in the address and the money was gone, called paypal and they said both e-mails addresses were ligit and since I paid direct from my acct the person who received the payment kept it and did not return my messages and is treated like cash and is gone for good and can not be disputed like a cc transaction can be, I didn't notice the link to by bank instead of cc and although it was a small amount, was a learning curve and lucky for me it was a small amount of money.

I sold my POS mattracks for my pickup on ebay and completed the transaction through paypal. Ebay and paypal whack you good on the fees for a transaction of that size. For large transfers of money there are waiting periods and many safety measures taken by paypal. Paypal is very safe IMO.

If you are concerned, make sure to use Paypal for goods and services and not the "gift" feature. The 3% fee is there for your insurance where if you get screwed using the gift feature you are not covered.

The fees are gross. The auction site I used took a bit over $500 for fees. Looked into it a bit more, he's got almost $300k in transactions so he's probably more worried than I am since it's my first transaction. Would have rather used escrow but he opted for PayPal. First successful website flip on my part, now we just have to not get burned.

paypal has been awesome for me. I've been using it for fifteen years I'd say. One time I bought a pair of boots off a sight that appeared to be totally legit. A couple days later I didn't have a tracking number so I started snooping. Found out the site basically vanished. Notified paypal about what was going on. Had my money back within twenty four hours.

I bought an item from a sketchy ebayer one time. They did not come through as it apparently was too good to be true. Paypal set me my cash back and they went after the perp.

I had a guy file a claim against me for something I sold once. Claims he didn't get it. I provided paypal the tracking number and a copy of the delivery receipt from ups. claim denied.
