i guess i was thinking it was already law --- fear of a MN fine i guess. I actually hate that law as i always stop twice to make sure they are pulled and both livewells are open.

How about OUTLAW ALL BABY BOOMERS THAT BUY THEIR KIDS A SKI BOAT WITH A FNK INTERNAL BALLAST TANK. Make em wear zebra mussels in their shorts for 5 years. That ought to cut em.

I am betting the majority of the transfers that have been made to the west central MN lakes has been 100% Ballast tank related. Stupid.

My question to this would be, do you have to stop on the ramp and pull the plugs and wait for it to drain, or can you pull up the ramp and into the parking lot and then pull the plugs there and wait for it to drain? :;:huh Would you get finded if you did this in the parking lot?

I agree with this. No way all the ballast water gets pumped out only to mix with water from the next lake and then get pumped out.

Depends on the ANS cop. Technically they could probably fine you because you didn't pull the plugs right away on the ramp.

My point was I have pulled the plug on my boat many times and no water has ever came out unless it rained in the boat. The rule must be in place for boats that leak. I still do it, but I don't see any benefit unless I start bailing infested water into my boat for the joy of letting it out the plug hole.

Do those rangers even have plugs? I thought they had some type of a system that lets water out only and no plug?

Mine has a plug and if you forget to put it in you have to put it back on the trailer to do so unless you have a scuba suit. Don't ask me how I know.:(

I found out how to put the plug in a yarcraft this summer. Beach it and make the young kid jump in. Thanks SDMF!

I never leave the plug in the boat. It doesn't leak, never leave it untarped, or spill in it much, but a buddy told me to pull the plug always to let air in and out of the underneath, or you will experience floor rot.
I am not one to redo a floor in a boat, nor to spend the money having it done if pulling a plug out and letting it sit in the transom area could prevent a situation.
Yes twice I have forgotten to put the plug back in, and filled the boat rather full of water before noticing, was funny both times.

Could be an optional item. I bought a used 2014 and it came with it.

I like it for the most part, it did stick a little bit at first but a quick shot of Pam fixed that

I always take mine out boat leaks a little water so it is a must.

All you need to stop a leak in a boat of that magnitude is a postage stamp. Maybe a post it. Or a band aid. Aged Bubble gum perhaps.

the maiden voyage with my new to me boat was interesting to say the least. Before I bought it I took it for a test drive with the seller so knew she was sea-worthy. The day I bought it I picked it up in DL and get to the casino, put plug in, noticed it was a little loose so gave it a couple turns to snug it up. Put the boat in the water then notice some dark clouds rolling in and decided to just hang out in the marina until they pass which was alright with me since then I could try to figure out the electronics. about 20 minutes later, idle out of the marina into the main lake and decide where I was going to go, pointed the boat in that direction and dropped the hammer. Instantly new something was wrong and looked down and there was water on the floor! I start freaking out (because I put the plug in myself) wondering where all this water could be coming from! Get her back in the marina and budge in line to get her loaded back up. Well apparently the drain for the hull and the drain for the rear livewell on my boat are right next too each outer. Stuck it in the wrong hole!!!

Ya bad deal when u put it in the wrong hole

Sometimes it's the last chance you get. If it's not, one really needs to think long and deep whether it needs to be.

Ahab is probably plugging the livewell hole --or probably the suction of that big 300hundo sucked it out permanently.

Ha ha. I know it is not the wrong hole. When I didn't plug it, the automatic bilge reminded me of impending doom. I must have got a cheap POS Ranger with a manual plug.
