I was melting down some "donated" lead and had a gold colored metal separate from the lead on top. This metal turned grey as I skimmed it off the top and it cooled. Does anybody know or have an idea of what this metal might be?? My first thought was tin, but I'm not a metallurgist by any means. Just curious and Thanks for any help!!

Most likely it is tin. Especially if it was on the top considering the density of lead is 0.41 per cubic inch and tin is 0.26 per cubic inch. I think tin melts at around 450 degrees too, so if it showed up early it is most likely tin.

Did it work alright??? After the tin was gone. I hope to get another 50#.

It wasn't the stuff I used for you Zogman. That lead was very pure and easy to work with. This lead came from a different source and everything worked out just fine. I was just wondering what kind of metal it was.

Thanks NDW!!

Not your stuff either Camoman. I put your stuff into bags and use it for a rest when I shoot. Works Great!! Thanks again for thinking of me when you had the chance!!! This stuff came from a construction demolition job so I have no idea what the quality or content of it was. It worked out just fine, once I skimmed this "Other Metal", tin it sounds like, off the top.
