No facts to support this but my opinion why the property tax bill got shot down is because there wasn't any plans on how to recoup some of the $$ for future needs. That would have been a substantial amount of money that would need to come from some where else.
Sure they could dip into the slush pool that they have but how long would that last ? I suppose they could reinstate the tax if absolutely needed (at a reasonable rate )
Personally I think if they would have cut "everyone's" taxes in half, and used that for a starting point, most people would have been more than happy.
Just my opinion. . .

Controlled Spending should be #1
Are you saying there wasnt a way to get additional funds if they wete needed to pay for things in the future? If so that is wrong..it allowed locals to figure out how to fund addituonal expenses...abother words if the politicians wanted to spend they would have to justify it with the people....could you imagine that?

Property tax abolishment was voted down, because some known locals around the state made advertisements that the effn boogiedy man was going to steal your babies if we didn't have unlimited access to peoples equity, and it was bought by more than it wasn't.
pitiful, these ass hats should be ashamed.

I see where the amount of tax credit is now down to 1250 and they have taken off the 3% max increase . The just keep chipping away at it . By the time they adjourn who knows where it will be . Complete junk .

HB 1176 would have given homeowners a $1450 credit towards their primary residence from the legacy fund. It was set to pass before Senators David Hogue and Mark Weber pushed the amendment that included commercial and agricultural property to the bill. Now if it does pass, it’s hard to believe Governor Armstrong won’t veto it.

“This last change drew the ire of Gov. Kelly Armstrong. ‘You are going to take Legacy Fund earnings and give it to out-of-state businesses and out-of-state land owners,’ he argued.”

…but we were supposed to vote to let the legislature come up with a way to replace property taxes? They couldn’t get a consensus on how to tie shoes…

They’ve proven many times they don’t care what you vote for…they’ll alter it to what they want anyway.

Can Governor Armstrong do anything with an executive order? This is gone on long enough, people are beyond fed up. Be a leader for the people Kelly. Stop letting these buffoons play politics with you. Take the reins and lead. They sure as shit have proven they could fuck up a one car parade.

With close to 70% showing up to vote to keep property taxes, make no mistake, they have a mandate to keep and increase property taxes.
Its because the dingo will eat your baby if we get rid of the property tax bill, we will all have to beg for the funds, it will be pure Armageddon. SMFH

Woodduck30 is kinda right on this. No way more are gonna vote to get rid of property tax when so many are getting exemptions and not seeing the insane evaluation increases that a lot of residential tax payers are seeing.

Exemptions & insane corporate welfare once again triumph over the wishes of the average citizen. This will never change with the current legislative mindset. The career politicians are bought and paid for by special interest in ND. Been that was for a long time.

Because that’s not what Hess wanted him to do? Notice it was never even on the table no matter how many people brought it? And it was the turning point for most undecided voters. We were close to 50% relief with this bill, and the shills couldn’t let it happen. It was never for the citizens of ND. It was for corporations. Party over people!
