galwhofishes needs one. which one should we get?

is astrostart still the cat's meow? If so which model?

"smartphone" ability would be nice - but if I borrow her rig or we're at home I want access to the remote of course without looking for her phone

any advice is appreciated

I have a feeling I already know the answer to this, but are you installing it yourself?

If you are going to spend the dough, get a two way so it tells you the vehicle is started. And no, they are not easy to install. When I worked at Oreilly's, I think I returned the same one three times because a guy would get started and realize it wasn't worth the effort.

in total agreement on "feedback" - her last one had that (astrostart)

and I want some good range - for starting it from a movie, game, airport etc. - the big parking lot scenario

Go Astro with a 2 way remote. I'm getting one for my pickup. I have a buddy who has the CompuStart and that thing is junk.

get the two way with the screen, I think it's only like $50 more than the two way without...wife has the 2-way without (my old one) never again, will always have a screen

The 2000ft range works good. I had that in my last pickup and could start the pickup from inside the FargoDome.

Directed electronics(viper,Python, sidewinder), different names so more dealers can carry but the same units, compare the features, range and functionality and youd probably pass on the Astro, not that Astro is a bad one.

Guywhoneedsacarstarter, be careful if you're looking at one with smartphone capabilities. Last winter I was in the market for a starter and thought that it would be cool to have a smartphone starter. I did some research and found the technology isn't great. It could take up to 15 minutes to start sometimes and sometimes not work at all. I didn't want the headache so got a two-way starter. Maybe they are better know, you may want to check some reviews.

And about 20 dollar a month onstar fee, or is it through Sirius like the weather and gas prices etc that is on the mylink... without the special Sirius/xm package you lost about half the options on my link

Well that's good that they finally figured that out, 5 years free on 2014 and newer and 3 years on select 2011 and newer. In my 13 Malibu I needed to have an active onstar subscription for what they call remote link now and also needed Sirius expanded package to get the weather etc. on the my link.

Have a viper starter on my wife's car. Works great if my wife wouldn't have put a hurting on the controllers. So, upgrade the controllers if you can. Oh and the 2 way is the cats pajamas.
