Those were mostly locals that stay on the river I believe. See them all winter when we travel to Billings, Sidney, Miles City for hockey. There were some full fields

Birds were heading north in the Kulm area this morning and south late afternoon. No open water to be had here and lots of snow cover yet

Lakes ice won't hold them to much sheet water forming. Only thing holding them back now is this cold front. This is a shot from last night and the ditches and gullys were flowing hard with the dramatically more water than we could of hoped for just a few weeks ago.

They're a crazy bird but I don't think they'll be going far with highs below freezing. That sheet water will freeze quick.

Definitely true and why I listed the cold front as their only hurdle at this point. That said they were moving pretty good tonight mixed in with a shit pile of Canada's.

Just saw some cranes:;:huh

Not much migration into Nodak this morning or the next few days is my guess - birds were flying up into southern nodak pretty good the last few days but I packed up the spread and gonna wait for better weather and the next push back into nodak. Last night the bird was heading south back into Sodak and roosts in nodak that were stacked are now empty. If anyone is setting up on the ND/SD border this weekend be prepared to go a little further south.

They will likely show up again this week only to get knocked back once again. Definitely never seen a season where we were down to the last three weeks or so before the main push finally arrived.

Since it’s a management season (right?) I wonder if the gf will extend the season. Or does that take a movement from the capitol?

They are not coming back north. They are going to nest in Nebraska this year. :::

Just took a trip to Arkansas to pick up new Yar Craft at the factory. About 1700000000 snows within 50 miles of Omaha. A few in southern SD. Snow line is southern SD, and open water seems to be southern SD northern Iowa.

They're showing up in full force now. Multiple flocks like this in a few square miles so they definitely are pushing the ragged Edge on just how far north they can go without being completely in the snow line.
