Interesting timing?

http://www.inforum.com/news/4227089-north-dakota-legislators-propose-state-owned-casinos

BISMARCK, N.D. — North Dakota legislators have introduced a proposal that would change the state constitution to allow for up to six state-owned casinos.

House Concurrent Resolution No. 3033 would allow exceptions to the prohibition on games of chance and authorize up to six state-owned casinos “which are to be established as destination-oriented attractions.”
The resolution is sponsored by House Majority Leader Al Carlson, Rep. Todd Porter and Rep. Roscoe Streyle. Sen. Lonnie Laffen is the Senate sponsor.
The matter would go before voters at the 2018 primary election.
Casinos authorized under the bill must be established as destination-oriented attractions and “selected for the scenic, historic, recreational and tourism advantages of the site and the site’s potential to contribute to the rural economic development of the state.”
State law currently prohibits casinos. They are allowed on tribal land in the state by the federal government.
This is a developing story. Check back to often for updates.

The amount of cash I have spent in a casino is less than $100. I like to spend my money on beer,at least that way I get a buzz out of it. ;:;boozer;:;boozer;:;boozer

Doubt they would put one down there since there is no advantage to doing that. They would be better off keeping it near bismarck as well as I-94 and highway 83. No need to go down there to capture business that you will still grab at only a couple miles out of town.

It would be better than having Indian only casinos. My problem is I don't want to contribute to someone's addictions. I spend any extra money I get on ammo
Just ordered 1000 Rainier subsonic bullets from Midway. I suppose I could have fed the one armed bandit, but this way I always win. I have a 1000 bullets and all they get is money.

The politicians would get greedy and unless you were related you wouldn't see a dam thing, just like all the oil taxes.

Fort Lincoln or somewhere in the post area. States need to be tied to entertainment attraction. Close to town and cuts of traffic south, couldn't be a more perfect location to accomplish desired results for my personal satisfaction for implied reasons. dukgnfsn

Even though i don't gamble anymore i would be for this.
People are going to gamble just like people are going to smoke or drink.
Go for it!

I think several new state owned casinos is bad idea idea but I could probably be convinced that one or two real nice ones in high populated areas would be ok as long as they would create a nice cash flow for the state. One on the east side of the state would draw a lot of Canadians down unless they have legalized casinos up there recently. Something more than the run of the mill casinos we have already have. A nice big salad bar with lots of fruit and a good meal, A sport betting room with drinks. Was working close to Vegas so went to a pretty nice casino to watch the Frozen four, The big TVs in there were awesome. Did this come up for vote like back in the 80s and was voted down or was that just to issue gambling permits to establishments ? Do the tribe operated casinos pay state taxes ?

Both St Mary's and Shiloh schools are expanding and providing excellent educational opportunities. If off reservation gambling offers them monetary relief I'm all for it.
My wife and I have been frequent visitors to Prairie Knights. The last time we witnessed renegades laying around smoking funny cigarettes, playing on their smart phones, stinking up the place and interfering with our entertainment. We did not feel safe. We will not be going back.

Yup, Medora would be a great spot for one. It is right on the interstate, already a real neat destination, and could really use a winter purpose. Not sure Medora folks would want the hoopla that comes with it, but I love that area, and think it would only help. They also have the states greatest golf course a couple miles out of town, plus the musical, and the pure beauty that people don't realize ND actually has.

I agree with Ghost, this is mostly out of spite. If it weren't for the NoDAPL fiasco most of these lawmakers would be arguing against casinos as detrimental to the families of ND. As far as NoDAPL, blame the leadership of SR, not the regular members. I'm sure the local members were as glad to see them leave as everyone else was.

MHO I don't like it. I don't want to see the natives punished for actions of a few dumb ones and recent poor choices.

However that being said I think we should line the outside walls of the Ralph with slots to support UND and NDSU sports.
