Question for jig makers, When melting down lead will painted jigs affect the process in any way ? I was wondering that for a couple seconds before I threw them in the garbage.

Nope. All that paint burns off and accumulates at the top. You just scrape it off before you re-pour. Easy peasy.

I take my used jigs, hold'em with a needle nose, and hit'em with a hammer to get as much of the paint off as I can. If you drop painted jigs into melted lead, get ready to run, as the smoke cloud you will get stinks to high heaven and will burn your eyes. Don't ask me how I know. (Grin) Then just dip the jig in the melted lead, the lead will melt off, and you junk the hook. I wouldn't say it's easy peasy, but it's really not that difficult.
