Hope your stove hole is on an end wall and not the ceiling.
That way you can put a plastic tarp over the top of the tent. Also don't have to worry as much about water coming in if it rains.

I had a Riley in my 12X17 wall tent. I think a good size fire needs a five or six inch chimney. Maybe a three inch will do it, but if you burn pine in the mountains you will need to check the spark arrester nearly every day. If you camp right at your truck there was a nice cast iron stove (heavy) for $99 at Sportsmens Supply.

Edit: Sorry, Sportsmen's Guide.

They don't have it anymore, but they have this one: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/hq-issue-outdoor-wood-stove?a=1884248

I agree with Ghost. If you have a decent sized tent you will need a 5'' or 6'' pipe. It might work but i wouldn't think so.

well its been a 3" stove used in this tent from day one and the guy before me used to do a lot of winter so it should work just fine for me plus itll be used for fall hunting as a base camp anyway so it wont be too terribly cold out for the most part.

3 inch will work fine with a heavy built stove that holds the heat after the fire starts getting low. How big is the wall tent and does it have a floor.

very heavy heavy canvas tent its a 10x12 with short walls its an old boy scout tent, there is no floor in it, i may put one in, but do not have one now i wanna see how i like it, the only time i've stayed in one was up in colorado elk hunting we had a big heavy canvas wall tent for a base camp and had no floor in that either

Got the parts off of the plasma table for my wood stove yesterday and went to work fabbing and welding on it.

13942331_10101923408486065_1902789204_n.jpg

here are all of the pieces that were cut off the table, i went with 7 gauge, which is plenty thick and plenty heavy but for what im doing its perfect seeing as how this tent will be just off the main road used as a base camp for hunting, i made the dimensions of the stove 26x16x16 for the total area inside of the stove and my 3" stove pipe hole on the top.

13956747_10101923408391255_1817478661_n.jpg

here is the beginning of the door, we used rod and pip and some flats to fab up a couple heavy duty hinges for the door, i made sure and i have a 1 inch over lap on the door on all sides so that i can get in 1/2" by 1/8" high temp gasket material to seal up the door to keep from smoke escaping.

14009807_10101923408461115_1537129750_n.jpg

this is the beginning shell of the stove, i welded in a long baffle and bent up the edge and welded that solid i left a 2" gap on the door side of the baffle so the smoke has to travel to whole length of the stove to make it more efficient, i also left a 2" gap from the top of the baffle to the top plate of the stove, it makes for a very even very big cooking surface on the top of the stove which will be very handy.

here is a picture showing the stove hole with the baffle inside of it.

13553271_10101923408321395_881298935_n.jpg

here is the finalized product, the door latch i just fabbed up some flats to lock into eachother and for both the air flow adjustment and for the door latch i put springs on the bolts to help keep it tight and secure to keep it from leaking smoke..

i did my first burn on this yesterday and there were no leaks it retained heat very well and burned good, once i get the seals for the door get the stove pipe in so i can finish the top of the stove and fab up some folding legs she will be all done and ready to heat the tent!

Looks awesome. How friggen handy is that plasma cutter? I assume you have it linked to a CNC machine. Boy could I waste time with something like that.

Cool Stuff!! Once you fire that baby up, how hot does that bolt get on the door latch?

Looks nice! About the only thing I can add to this is that my welding skill set is such that I would just be drinking blue num nums while welder guy completes project.

good call - needs the coily wire treatment (that would be fun to figure out properly as a matter of fact)

grrrr. I should just pull the trigger and buy one so it quits popping up on NDA sidebar

i was actually gonna wrap it with something was the plan some sort of wire to keep it from getting too hot, but after the first burn yesterday when it was really going it was hot to the touch, but it wasnt to the point that i couldnt do it, it was fine to open the door, but if you were to keep your hand on it for a little while you would feel it i would bet,

i carried it out of the shop into my pick up by myself when i left last night... i decided that is the last time i will ever carry that thing that far again, the thing is built like a brick shit house!
