Sold my old V2 I-pilot on a whim and I don't like staring at the naked bow of my boat. Anybody have anything to say about the Ulterra? Gen 1 vs Gen 2?

Ultrex! Best of both worlds! Cable drive with the foot for pinpoint move right now boat handling with the convenience of iPilot.

I have heard great reports from the Ulterra. Gen 2 has the updated spotlock with is fantastic compared to the 1st gen.

I have the new generation Terrova with lift assist and the compass puck and my boat sticks in spot lock. A HUGE improvement!!

The deploy and store feature on the Ulterra is awesome.

The reception from the remote to the unit is mediocrity personified. When on the Toon, anyone or anything remotely in the way gives me fits.

Otherwise, I like.

I have the gen 1 and it's not bad. I wish the foot pedal had a little better control. I find it difficult to make small adjustments with it. The spots lock, especially in current or wind is garbage. You drift off your spot, then it speeds up fast, over shoots the spot, then turns back around to get to the spot, over shoots again and so on.

20170730_184437.jpg this is the potential inconvenience of an ulterra. Won't stow, tries but doesn't trim up or turn. Not a whole lot of fun trying to pull the motor off and not drop it in the drink. I'm glad I kept my old terrova handy. I've heard good reports on the new terrovas with the lift assist. Less moving parts, less to go wrong.

The new Link Ulterra has been good to me so far. I comes with a piece of webbing to retrieve it if it doesn't stow itself.
Not sure how to use the webbing but I really like the motor.

I really want the gen2 Terrova. I had a couple guys tell me that their Ulterras let them down at the DWC this year. They wouldn't come back up and I guess when you have to manually pull them up they have to go get repaired before everything works again. I'm not sure if that's 100% accurate but its what I've heard. I have the gen 1 Terrova that I would give someone a pretty great deal on to get into a new Terrova with the blue tooth and upgraded spot lock.

The NEW Terrova is night and day with the spot lock. I called the 1st generation "vicinity lock". This new version blows the 1st gen away!!!

On the plus side when you use a gen 1 no one else can fish within 50+ feet of you.

Bit the bullet and ordered the gen 2 Ulterra. Can't wait to hit the happy button.

A buddy and I both have the new generation. It has made for some fun BS time jigging about 10 feet apart. Also it is easier to pass beer from boat to boat when you can spot lock close.... The 1st gen does keep a few "ticks" away.

That is correct. I have not run into that problem yet, but I have a quick release on mine where I can pretty easily lift the whole unit off the bow if needed. The older slide-in style bracket would be impossible to remove with the motor deployed. Truth is I didn't even think of this until you mentioned it, but I had to buy two of the newer brackets so I could easily swap the Ulterra between the boat and the Toon.

Ultrex is the single best motor I've ever owned. I've had ulterras, Terrovas, xi5' and a handful of power drives. This thing is in a league of its own. Went through three ulterras last year alone, that motor has ruined more good fishing than children and marriage.

I know you already ordered a gen 2 Ulterra but here is what I know. I fished the Governors Cup with the general manager of my dealership (not mentioning names) and he has an ulterra on his boat and he kept a brand new one as a spare in the bed of his truck. That right there told me they had some issues. When I asked him about it he said the Gen 1s did have some motor issues but for the most part the Gen 2s have held together well as long as you don't deploy it before the boat is almost to a complete stop (72" shaft). I fished the DWC the following weekend with someone else from the same dealership and he rigged his boat with a new Terrova (way better than the 1st gen) because of all the issues he has seen with the ulterras. When the tournament was done I bought the Terrova off his boat (dealer demo) to replace my 1st gen terrova. It was great being able to deploy the trolling motor from behind the windshield but there have just been too many issues for me to put one on my boat.

I bought a used boat last fall that had a Ulterra. The guy said this was the second one he has had and no issues. I haven't had any issues so far and hope it stays that way. I love it except for the spot lock sucks like people have mentioned.
