I have been trying to figure out this weather correlation and walleyes. Especially when I drive far and want to have my best day possible. If you guys have any tips on pressure, changes in weather, and warm and cold fronts I’d really appreciate it. If it’s super cold is it even worth going? What should I expect depending on the weather?

If you can figure out the answer to this riddle you will not have to worry about what days to fish since you will be able to fish every day because everyone will pay you for the answer. I have fished days that I though were a waste of time and done well and other times I thought I should do well because of my belief the weather set me up for success and never marked a fish. This is why it is called hunting and fishing and not catching and killing. The one thing I can guarantee is you will never catch them at home!!! All we can do it keep trying and learning and keep at it. Not trying to be a smartass, that is the best answer I can give you from my to many years of experience and still not understanding the BEST time to FISH. As I get older I just appreciate being able to go when I can. dukgnfsn

My experience has been that they like a run of stable weather pressures. Typically 3 or more days. Changes in pressure generally shut them down. Do NOT be afraid of fishing in sub-zero temperatures especially if it has been cold for a few days....as that usually means high pressure has settled in. Some of the best fishing I have had is with temps at -20....those cold still evenings can be golden.

This being said, we live in ND. If you do not have an outdoor winter hobby, you will go crazy at some point. Don't let the slow fishing days get you down, don't rely on fishing reports too much....go make your own, fish lakes that you know have a lot of fish, and stay positive. You can't catch fish on the couch. If you fish in a house, get up and take a walk and talk to the other fishermen in the area (unless you are surrounded by sconnis, they are dicks) you will be surprised what you can learn about a lake by being personable.

Ice fishing gets me through the winter. I go simply to have fun...it keeps my mind occupied. Catching fish is just a bonus.

I have found out that i catch more fish when i have a line in the water versus sitting at home.

I like to fish before big fronts and stay away the day after. Besides that “you can’t catch ‘em on the couch”!

All ya'all that are saying you can't catch fish on the couch need some grippier gloves.

Just when I think a low front will shut them down, I have the best day ever, and the opposite with a stable pattern. I don't think they ever quit eating because of the weather, I think they just move, or feed differently. My philosophy is, if I can go fishing, I'm going fishing.

Just substitute "Walleye" whenever he says "Gopher" and you'll know all you need to know:

Fish are like women, Just when you think you have them figured out, they do something to make you realize you have no damn clue.

As long as its not blowing over 30 i go fishing when i can. I've had great days and been skunked in every weather imaginable.
