Last week there was two discussions on rattling. I would like to know which call or scent works best for everybody. Is it rattling, grunt/snort calls, doe bleat, hanging urine, or anything else you have found that works. As for me, I have only called in one deer using a doe in estrus call. I have tried grunting, rattling, and I have hung doe urine with no results.

Have used the CAN on young bucks and it just drives them nuts.

Rattling has worked great for me, but I shot my biggest buck with a grunt call.

Baiting doesn't work the best in my area. I've put out piles of apples and only had a few does stop for a bite to eat. I've put out pellets, blocks, corn, and molasses. Nothing gets touched.

I've prefer Silence, Stealth, and Staying Downwind, but IF I do make noise, it's a series of soft grunts. That has brought more than one nice deer to the edge of cover to check. Crashing horns, pounding hooves, and loud grunts seem to spook everything but the very youngest deer that probably just want to watch the show.

I have used a mix the last few years for myself or helping other friends. I've had mixed results on calls, rattling, grunting and doe bleats. Scent has seemed to help and I try to do a mix of doe estrus and buck urine in hunting areas along with scratching up some mock scrapes in the dirt and adding sent to ground and a overhanging branch or taking my saw and making a rub line on trees then a little buck sent on those. Finding natural scrapes and adding some bottled sent to them to make it seem like an intruder I think can help a little.
The way I see it is by doing a little combination and finding a way to entice a buck to be more territorial to protect from competition can make them a little more likely to appear during shooting light.

Luck helps too!

I agree with KDM. Most of what I try is subtle and finer details, moderation is king in my experience. Over kill on scents seems to hurt and too much sound might make them investigate but hard to get close enough for a shot. I want them to have to work a little and try to use sound and scent as more of a misdirection.

I haven't had much luck with rattling or any sort of scent stuff. Tried buck piss, doe piss, the hanging scent wicks, buck bomb spray, etc. all with limited to no results. Only thing I've ever been somewhat successful with is with some light grunting and some snort/wheeze. Have a had a few decent bucks come running out of cover to check things out with that. Never tried a decoy, but may give it a go this year.

On a calm morning I called in a big mature WT buck with an Primos doe estrous can from roughly 800 yards away. The only reason that I didn't get him is because the spike mule deer came in too right before him and I couldn't call anymore without getting busted. I've called in other small bucks with both the estrous can with a doe decoy and a Hunter Specialties buck grunt. They have their place.

I've had the best luck with a combo sequence of snort wheeze/grunts/rattling. First time rattling during a sit, I usually do quieter and shorter just in case there is a deer close by I don't see. If I had to pick just one out, it would be the snort wheeze.
Haven't had much luck with a decoy, but really haven't gave it a lot of time either.
