I'd probably do exactly what he did. Watch long enough to know the situation, make what I'd consider the ethical decision. In this instance, I'd shoot.

No question about it. Shoot, recover, and eat. The tracking most likely caused the buck to end up in the water, so through the act of hunting him, the hunter caused his demise IMO. Nice buck too!!

I wonder if he would have wrote a story if he followed the tracks to a bedded deer and shot it sleeping in it's bed? Defenseless? He was hunting, yada yada, he killed a deer. Happy feasting!
