What do you have in your hunting packs? I'm getting a list together to outfit my new Eberlestock X1A1 and was wanting to see if there were any good ideas out there.

4. snacks/water
5. small tool box which includes, allen wrenches, d-loop material, lighter, gerber
6. camera

I think im forgetting some things.

Spot and stalk; same as before without the camera.

If its going to storm, I throw in a rain jacket.

TP, 2 knives, small diamond stone, small windproof lighter, XL Sagen, bit of paracord, flashlight, headlamp, elec or duct tape, 2-3 15gal ziplocks, an extra hat and gloves in a ziplock to ensure dryness, and a few zipties.

I knew I was forgetting something. Knives and sagin saw. I usually have a roll of tp in a ziploc bag just in case I can't make it back to the pickup...or I have a nice pair of socks on.

What kind of hunting you going to be doing? I keep totes that I label with everything in it, so depending on what I'm hunting I'm doing I can grab one of my packs, take out what I need of my totes and pack my back pack accordingly. Once done with that hunt everything goes back into the totes. I'm anal that way.

What would be the difference between the totes? I guess there would be a difference if you were stick and string vs a gun. Hmmm...interesting. I like it.

For example I have one tote just for my mouth calls, one for scents, one for game bags, one for first aid, one with an of assortment knifes, even finally made one up last year with plates, seasoning, eating utensils...ect. Makes getting ready for a hunt simple, may not work for everyone but works well for this guy.

1. headlamp
2. GPS
3. spare batteries
4. knife
5. travel size pack of "wet ones" (much better than TP)
6. 1 emergency blanket. can't say I have ever used for warmth, but these are perfect for laying meat out on and keeping it clean.
7. a couple game bags. I have been using Caribou Bags the last couple years and really like them, light weight and reusable.
8. small/lightweight emergency kit
9. mini leatherman
10. 1 pair of rubber gloves
11. 1 bottle of water and 2 granola bars

Depending on location, weather, rifle/bow hunt, etc. I will add more, but I would consider this my base for any outing.

I pack about 10-20 ft of orange plastic flagging because in heavy timber my gps doesn't always work. Other things include knife, tp, electrical tape for hot spots on the feet, headlamp, gloves, mosquito spray and water. I am so out of shape any more that I quit carrying a saw, spotting scope, these slipper things that go over your shoes so your footsteps are not so loud, and I leave the elk bugle at home.

I do a number of long day hunts and overnight hunts in a year. My basic gear doesn't change whether I'm day hunting or spending 5 nights out, so what's always in my pack is:

Kill kit:
game bags
Havalon
50ft Paracord
Flagging tape
Cuben fiber ground sheet
contractor bag

Med/Survival kit:
bic lighter
1oz bottle with fire paste
1oz bottle with waterproof matches and tinder
compass
some basic meds and bandages
tweezers
leukotape (best shit for blisters ever - wrap it around 1oz bottle)
duct tape - wrapped around 1oz bottle
MSR Aquatabs

Rain gear
Extra pair merino socks/underwear
Water bladder
Food/snack
Camera
2 headlamps
Spare batteries for headlamps
GPS if needed
Small ziploc of paper towels
Small ziploc of baby wipes

If all I'm doing is walking a quarter mile to climb a tree stand, this list is obviously overkill and doesn't apply to you.

It really depends what you're doing and how long you are out hunting for. Short morning or evening trip is a fanny pack with minimal items.

Typically my "day pack" contains:

havalon knife with extra blades
folder knife
TAG game bags
garbage bag
zip ties
marker or pen with leukotape wrapped around it
lighter
magnesium flint/striker
trioxane tabs (fire)
tp or baby wipes
head lamp with spare batteries
simple first aid kit with band aides, duct tape, meds, etc.
25 ft cord
camera
extra socks
light gloves and hat
possibly rain jacket depending on weather
water
