I use my iphone w/ navionics app up there and love it. Just wish it would mark my trails. Maybe it can and I just dont know how to use it...

I would'nt rely on an iphone for GPS or anything in the cold. If you haven't noticed already they lose battery life quickly and will literally just shut down if the phone gets cold leaving you stranded. Iphone operating temp is only down to 32 degrees. Apple geniuses my ass!

That is a very good point. That is my I always have my usb battery pack that I can charge my phone 3-4 times off of when I am on the ice.

So my February trip will not be made this year, as family health issues are keeping me close to home. I will still make the March trip, and look forward to meeting some of you.

Anyone coming back from there since they had the blizzard last weekend? Was planning on going up this weekend with a Ranger(not tracked) and was wondering if I will have problems getting around? just dont want to drive up and not be able to fish so any insights to current conditions for wheels would be appreciated! Thanks

From the sounds of things, you better have something with tracks. check out http://www.manitobafishingforum.com/forum/

Also, if you are on facebook, join the groups "Ice Fishing - Manitoba" and "Manitoba Greenbacks!" Lots of good info

F7>>> I'm assuming you are headed to Winnipeg so what dates are you going to be there? We aren't heading up until the week of March 13th. I have a Polaris ranger crew with tracks on it as well.

We are heading up the 20th of March, I have a ranger without tracks, and a sled if needed. I am sure hoping to use the ranger, it is just so much easier getting around with.

last time I was up the average daily temp was around -20*, fricken sucked. If that is the forecast this year in 5 weeks, I might call in with the shits, and miss the trip

IMO you don't need it... Its just a big bowl, if you want to go deeper go further from shore. We will be there the 5th,6th,& 7th

Just wanted it for the gps map of lake. I turned gps on lowrance on and it doesnt look to have any lakes preloaded on it for canada. Not sure my phone will work up there.

Are you on Verizon? If so you can get the "travel pass" for $2 a day and pretty much use your phone like normal up there. navionics app (get the one with us AND canada waters) is like $15. That with google maps and you're set. Make sure you bring one of those usb chargers to charge your phone though. As mentioned before the cold can drain your battery really quick.
