I have eaten many species of fish, but the worst tasting to me is fried carp or goldeye. What fish don't you like?

The last channel catfish I had was awful. Don't think I'll be able to even fillet another.

For me it was Squid, Went to a great big seafood buffet in Utah once when I was hungry as a bear , Everything looked so good and I started out with what I knew I liked and it was delicious. Then a short fat Somalian with a head as big as a bar stool sat in the booth right next to ours, and I couldn't help but notice how pretty his young wife was, He saw me looking at her and he started staring at me with a mean look on his face. He had a heaping full plate of squid and I had never tasted that before so I thought it must be good stuff as he sure looked like he was enjoying it. I went back for seconds and came back with a few things I had never tried before one being a squid.
By now he has squid juice running down his chin and neck and arm he was tearing into it like it was chicken so I got brave and went to take a bite and the smell almost made me hurl so I passed. when all that was left on my plate was this squid I took one little bite and it tasted like rotten fish so bad that I wanted to hurl . I looked up and the mean looking savage covered with smelly squid juice was staring at me with a mean look and eating squid like it was candy. I had all I could do to get out of there without getting sick.

A 2 pound bullhead in the middle of July in a small pond my dad said would taste like dirt. He said if he cleans it I am eating the whole thing. It was like scooping dirt and eating it. He made me choke the whole thing down.

The way I have seen some people clean fish at the cleaning stations even good fish are going to taste bad. I am dammed picky with my walleye and perch because I enjoy them so much. IF its over 80 out they don't even go in livewell, direct to ice cooler. Filleted, washed and back on ice for trip home. Salted water overnight, rinsed and dryed with paper towels and vac-packed. Will keep for years.

Except for large sunfish and SM. "Same" fish same deal. They taste like a squashed insect.

We tried to eat largemouth camping once. Couldn't choke it down. Other times I've eaten it and it was fine. Must have been the fact we had nothing else to eat that night and destiny thought "hey, these guys need to suffer".

Other than the buffalo, which is by far the worst, i dare any of you to try it...
Id have to say a distant 2nd worst would be fish that someone else cleaned, especially the fish that sat frozen whole on the ice for 6 hours before it was thawed, poorly filleted and then re-froze.

An alien hoofed sum b got me one of those a few summers back. First and (so far) last fish I've smoked. No brine, just alotta smoke. Was damn good. Can only imagine if I applied the kdm methodology of fish smokin'. I will try it a gain this summer. Mark my words msa....mark. my. words...

Fish that's frozen thawed and frozen, then freezer burnt is defiantly not as good as fresh well taken care of fish. Sometimes it's all how you cook it. It took a while but I've found ways to cook some of the worst and make them edible, like carp and tillipia. I once cooked a trout that was in my fridge for 2 wks. It was clearly rotten but I didn't want to waste it. I spent a lot of money to go trout fishing for the weekend with a buddy and only caught the one, then forgot about it in the fridge. It was truly awful but got eaten. One time while camping we caught a goldeye we ate the fresh roe, not to bad, and roasted the rest over the fire. It wasn't great but edible. Someone got the great idea to try an eyeball, that particular taste is one I wish I'd never tasted. The way it popped and oozed almost made me vomit. My other buddy was not so fortunate.

Fish I like:
Walleye of any size, although the texture gets less pleasing as they get larger. Once they're above 24 inches I tend to prefer someone else eat them, they can also be bad from warm, murky waters.

Perch, but I don't like those with that little black parasite in the flesh like is so common in the eastern part of the state.

Bluegill (at times they are my faves), but I don't get a lot of keepable sized ones.

Crappie is OK.

LM Bass out of cold water and less than 13 or 14 inches are OK.

Channel Cat out of cold water, once in a blue moon kind of thing.

Paddlefish are great when it's a smaller fish (sub 40 lbs), and not even the teeniest bit of pink/red meat has been kept on the filet once the fish is dead! Otherwise, it joins the worst fish list.

Northern pike out of cold water.

Swordfish is excellent and reminds me of paddlefish the way I like it.

Mahi Mahi by any name, same goes for the flat fish varieties (halibut, flounder, etc).

Tuna.

Black sea bass are awesome, kind of like a walleye. Most ocean fish, wahoo, mackerels, marlin, etc are best in moderation though as they are just too fishy compared to what my palate prefers.

Fish I detest:
Carp...period. Commercial fished them for years and they disgust the hell out of me.

Big Mouth Buffalo, see the above.

Goldeye, only tried it smoked one time. That was enough.

SM Bass. I've tried it twice. That was aplenty.

Salmon is best in moderation for me, I can take small portions at things like game feeds, but sure don't want a whole meal of it. I give away all I catch.

White bass, I tried for years to tell myself that I like them. I don't.

Ling, they're actually OK but again in moderation and I have to eat them while still hot and dripping in a salt and peppered butter. Once they get anywhere near room temp they aren't nearly as good to eat, IMHO.
