I really like my Wild country XTX especially for the price. Have had them on my 1994 dodge 1500, 2 sets on my 2004 2500 cummins, and 1 set on my 2012-13 1500 work truck. That being said in winter the work truck was less desirable to drive over my 04 (265/70/17), I really dislike these 275/60/20

Toyota and Hankook should be worth looking at from what people tell me and I am unsure what my counterpart got on his 1500 but he really liked them

I run Hankooks on the wifes Navigator and on my landcruiser. Waiting for the junk factories on 2015 ram to wear out, but only have 11k on it. Hankooks, I believe are softer and may or may not last as long, but they have held up well on our crappy roads.

I've owned both and liked them SDMF... but doesn't that narrow wall change behavior?

Is there a way to get tall/skinny tire performance in the squat almost no wall tire?

Bought Goodyear wrangler ats with Kevlar. No complaints other than $$ so far - my factory slicks lasted 25,000 and that was pushing it...

That size is sucky no doubt. Fwiw, I went back to bfg at kos for my 265/70r/16s or 17s... can't remember. I couldn't be happier again. Had some Kevlar tires the last go around after 3 sets of bfg at kos. Wasn't impressed. Too hard for ice and snow. I really don't know what to recommend for your size though.

I run dynapro atms on both of my pickups. They are a good half ton tires. I have about 25000 on them now with a lot of gravel and they still look decent. I will never put them on my 3/4 ton diesel again. I do a fair amount of pulling with it and I'll be lucky to see 25000.

I put 275/60/20 BFG AT KO2's on my Ram 1500 last fall. Dont know why I waited so long to replace the factory Goodyear Wrangler HP's. Should have did it a long time ago. One thing that was interesting during my tire search. It seemed like the BFG was way more expensive than other brands in that size. After doing more research, I came to find out that the BFGs are only offered in 8 ply in that size, where all the other tires in that size are 6 ply. If you move up to the common 3/4 ton size of 275/65/20s you can get a 10 ply in almost any tire, but then the prices were comparable to the BFGs. So for a half ton, I think the BFG was a good compromise.

My truck gets around great with them, they look the best out of any of the AT tires on the market in my opinion. Only complaint I have is they tend to throw rocks. Hopefully that comes to an end as the wear in a little more.

Oh, and Sams club was the cheapest I could find them locally. Ok Tire in Bismarck matched the Sams club price, so I bought from them.

How much did the BFG's affect your mileage? They are a heavy ass tire, The standard Goodear SRA (Shitty!) on my Sierra are 40 lbs, i believe the BFG in same size are 57. Ive been looking at some Coopers (ATP, AT3) because i can get them in P-rated version and they are only about 43 lbs.

Throw some street slicks on those afro-rims and get a pair of 18" with some meat for the fall-winter.

Damn kids and their big wheels now days! 20" rims are about the dumbest idea ever. I'd get rid of them and get something smaller. As for tires I liked my Goodyear ATS, just went to Duratracs and they are a little more noisy and like to throw rocks.

I will never buy Hankooks again. A year before I bought em one of my best buddies told me a story but I didn't recall the tire brand. He put new tires on his truck then drove three hundred miles to pick up his new camper. All the way home he could barely keep the truck between the lines. swayed all over the place. He got home and took the truck back to the tire shop and told them to swap em out with something else. Problem solved. Well year later I took my truck in to tire shop and they talked me into Hankooks. I put em on and drove home. I noticed just driving down the side streets in town that it seemed to oversteer to beat hell. But figured it was just me. Went home, hooked up the two horse bumper pull and proceeded the next day to drive from Williston to MN. Noticed right away something didn't seem right. Kept driving and picked up another horse just north of Bismarck. It was a little squirly all the way to MN. On the way home we were empty till Fargo. Grabbed a horse in Fargo and hit the interstate. It got windy about Casselton and holy shit could hardly keep it on the road. Never had this problem before. Got home and remembered my buddies story. Called him up and damned if it wasn't Hankook's that he had the problem with. So I took the truck in the next day. They were absolutely amazed by my claim. They changed the air pressure so that they were even. They usually run more in the backs. I went home and hooked the trailer up. Same story. The guy at tire shop could see the feathering of the tires so he knew my story held a little water at least. So they rotated the tires front to back and I went home and pulled the trailer. Issue gone. So they made me keep the tires. Well needless to say I haven't rotated em. Won't buy Hankooks again.

with the giant brakes on these 1500's there isn't room to go to 17" rims I don't think. Plus for me I don't think my company would do a major change just for my little bit of comfort, I only put 50,000-75,000 on per year anyways.

This is a good thread. I'll be ready to buy at the end of September, might be around Labor Day if the sales are good enough to persuade a guy. Been looking at mostly the Cooper AT3s, BFG KO2's, and General Grabber AT2.
My uncle has the Coopers on his 3/4ton with about 15,000 miles on them and they still have a ton of tread left.

So when you say "winter tire" are you planning on running them only when the white stuff is on the ground or are you just wanting to put them on before winter aka badlands season?

BFGOODRICH ALL-TERRAIN T/A KO2
However if I were to venture into a different tire keeping in mind an off road emphasis (badlands/ice fishing) and retain a smooth highway ride I would take a hard look at these :
