Oh and I just heard today that the gal who got hit by that loud grenade like thing, banger?
She lost her arm.

Not saying it's not true, but there's been nothing but bullshit coming out of rioters' mouths since day one. I'll believe it when I see it and LEOs confirm the details. Was a one-armed woman injured by a flash bang? Was her arm already injured as the result of a separate unrelated incident? Was it completely made up like so many other stories that have come out of the riot?

Whenever I bring up how the tribe never met with the CORPS or were involved with the meetings, I get the same response....."It wouldn't have mattered, that pipe was going in where they wanted it" I guess if you've been to enough "consulting" meetings only to find out you are just being told whats going to happen whether you like it or not, this time they just didn't show. Not much of an excuse I know, but I'm betting that co. wish like hell they would have chosen a different route now.

It is a flash bang grenade and will cause damage but mostly just confuses people. I have a hard time feeling bad for anyone there. That excuse is it is just going to happen any way is like the people who did not vote because it does not matter I think this last election proved that wrong. Showing up to the meetings would have gave some credibility to this but by not putting just a little bit of effort in before all the eco terrorism has started leaves them with no leg to stand on. Common sense would have thought following a pipe line that is in the ground and has all the easements already would have been good

So does any one know what really happened with the gal and her arm?

Here's what I've read from different locations

1: Flash bang/concussion grenade (coming from the protestor side of things)

2: May have been an explosive rigged by the protestors - a news article with that statement from a spokesperson from the sheriff's department. They (sheriff's dept) said they never deployed anything that would have caused that type of injury.
http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-dakota-access-pipeline-protests-20161121-story.html

The woman was one of 26 people that activists said Monday had been taken to the hospital for their injuries after a clash between protesters and police Sunday night. Police had doused protesters with a low-pressure water cannon as temperatures dipped below freezing.

One of the pipeline protest leaders, Dallas Goldtooth, said on Facebook on Monday that a young woman named Sophia Wilansky “was struck directly by a concussion grenade last night on the front lines” of a protest on a bridge near Cannon Ball, N.D.

But a Morton County, N.D., Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said police had not used any concussion grenades during a clash with pipeline protesters on Sunday, contradicting several reports from activists.

“It wasn’t from our law enforcement, because we didn’t deploy anything that should have caused that type of damage to her arm,” said sheriff’s spokeswoman Maxine Herr, who said medical officials first encountered the injured woman away from the action, at a nearby casino. “We’re not sure how her injury was sustained.”

Herr suggested that the woman may have been injured while protesters were “rigging up their own explosives” — propane bottles to be thrown at police. None of those propane bottles exploded, and “the only explosion the officers heard was on the protesters’ side,” Herr said.

No one was arrested for making or throwing explosives, she said.

3: That it was caused by a chain that snapped when the protestors were trying to move one of the burned out vehicles (came from someone on a FB post)

The woman was indeed badly injured. Was it done by a flash bang grenade? Unlikely. Remember that SWAT and military use the same things in close quarters is hostage situations to SAVE people. My guess? When they were trying to yank the truck off the bridge, something went wrong.

I was a bit to pious with my last post because I still want an A-10/Apache strafe. Those convoy pics I see especially piss me off.

wow.

She sat in the back of a vehicle for over 2 hours? Are these terrorist that deranged that the well being of this woman is less important than the lies they are trying to spread about her injury?

Horrific, and needs to be reported as such.

Yeah I have heard every excuse there is defending why they didn't participate in the planning of this. I believe if they did participate this would not be happening right now. They would have chosen a different route. It still comes down to $$ and DAPL has lost a ton of money with the delays and current situation. If these protests happened a year ago or if there was input from SR early on, the financials would have led them to a reroute.

That isn't going to happen now with pipe upstream and downstream of the crossing already in the ground. Too much money.

From a pipeline integrity standpoint, sabotage has to be a major concern. Most of these rioters really don't care about the earth or a spill. In there eyes if this pipeline starts leaking it proves them all right and gets revenge. I am guessing DAPL will have to spend millions and millions in added Quality Checks and Inspectors. They can not afford to have the pipeline leak.

to change the media perspective on all this, why doesn't the pipeline company come out and release the engineering diagrams and information of all the safety checks for this section of the pipeline and show how this would be the best and safest pipeline?

I've been critical of the company on this issue from the start. They have not tried to educate anyone on any facts, which kind of makes me suspicious. I would like to see them communicate a lot more than they have.

It might help with some people, but lets be honest. Facts and engineering details of the pipeline will change zero minds at the camp. Everything is a "lie" "made up" "propaganda". Facts are not going to change what's going on.

But your right, for rational thinking people some facts or maybe easier access to the decisions and facts would be nice. It just isn't going to stop what's going on.

I am sure most of the information you are looking for was shared and discussed during the public meetings and planning process. I would like to see a nice spreadsheet of all the documented comments they received by stakeholders and landowners with the resolution or response to each concern/question in the cell next to the comments. This would show and prove they went through the process with the right intentions.

I truly hope that law enforcement has made some kind of plan of action to protect or maintain the Cannonball River boundary once river freezes up and these knuckle heads cross via ice. I do hope for cold weather to thin out the protesters, but then it would benefit the hardcore "rioters" to get onto the private property easier. Maybe somebody can provide some insight there, but is there enough water current in that part of the river which would require the real bitter cold to freeze up. Knowing that some of these people are from California, Oregon or Washington, I can see a bunch of them try to run on the ice at the same time. I would spiritual justice to have them break through the ice.

It's not actually the cannonball river they need to cross its cantapeta creek. The camp sits on the point formed by the confluence of the cannonball river which is south of the camp and the creek to the north. The creek has basically zero flow at this time of year so will freeze up fast. This is the the view of the creek just north of the camp taken last fall so the water now would probably be a bit lower then that shown in the pic.

Thanks for the information Dean! Just hope they have plans on how they are going to control things at that location.

I see Sen. Hietkamp finally got her name in the paper about her concerns of all involved. Com'on Heidi take a stand here and tell us are you for or against this pipeline? She was all loud and proud when the Bakken took off and was concerned about the transportation of the crude oil by rail and all the truck traffic to the transload facilities around the region. But now, when they say the safest way is by pipeline she sits quietly in her office. You can't tell me she is actually too busy planning her Thanksgiving dinner. All North Dakotans need to remember moments and events like this, so in 2 years when she runs for re-election (if she does), this needs to be brought up.

It actually appears the "other side of the story" is that she got injured when the chain snapped while they were trying to tow one of the trucks, the protestors burned up, off the bridge.

another article posted about the incident.

Law enforcement is investigating a Monday explosion at Backwater Bridge, according to North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Officers reported hearing an explosion around 3 a.m. during Dakota Access Pipeline protest activity yesterday.

Officers on scene said two males and a female were near a remaining burned vehicle, left from a Oct. 27 clash between opponents of the crude oil pipeline and law enforcement, on the north side of Backwater Bridge.

Police ordered them to come out and then fired bean bags and sponge rounds in attempt to drive them away from barricades.

Officers then reported more people approaching the area, one of them rolling multiple silver cylinder objects toward the burned vehicle. It was at this time an explosion occurred and several protesters ran to the area, pulled a female from under the burned vehicle and fled the scene.

Investigators found one pound propane cylinders, including one that appeared to be intentionally punctured, as well as large rocks and glass jars consistent with the design of Molotov cocktails.

Highway Patrol released photos of "improvised explosive devices" found near Backwater Bridge, including small propane tanks, slingshots and rocks.

Police say further details will be released later this afternoon.

Anyone know the total cost of this so far? I read 10 million from the state, 8 million from Morton County, and who knows how much the pipeline company has spent on security, damaged equipment, etc. and lost work time. While I understand environmental concerns about pipelines, I also believe we have to rely on oil still. This pipeline is the best we can do right now. Why do we continue to allow what are essentially domestic terrorists to dig their heels in at the cost of millions to everyone else? I am amazed how far it has gone.

It was at 10.9 million as of a few days ago so they will have to go to the bank again. apparently the pipeline company has told the governor they will cover the bill but have not made a formal agreement yet.

side note the AG says they were not in violation of the corporate farming law when they bought the ranch.

Apparently 500 veterans are coming here early December. They said they are basically going to try to first breach the bridge and then the DAPL drill pad. Their spokesman was on the radio this morning.

Had an old farmer come in and tell me he was joining the veterans. Fun fact, almost all of dapl security is former military.
