The North Dakota Game and Fish Department will offer 607 any-deer bow licenses to nonresident archery hunters in 2019, up from 502 in 2018.

Applicants must apply online at the Game and Fish website, www.gf.nd.gov. Paper applications are not available. The deadline for applying is March 1.

Up to five hunters can apply together as a party. A lottery will be held if more applications are received than licenses available. Any remaining licenses after March 1 will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
The number of nonresident any-deer bow licenses available is 15 percent of the previous year's mule deer gun license allocation. The Game and Fish Department issued 4,050 mule deer licenses in the 2018 deer gun license lottery. The department issued 3,350 mule deer tags in the 2017 deer gun license lottery.

they should really change this to 15% of previous year MD buck tags given after gratis. Then if they want to give out MD doe tags issue them separate.

Does anyone know the amount of NR MD rifle tags given out? Is it 1% of tags available in a unit? I was looking at the drawing statistics and seen where X amount of nonresidents applied for tags in a given unit for MD but didn't see any draw info for nonresident specific.

That they will follow the law as set forth by the legislature. Is that the answer you seek?

Exactly

If you don't like it, voice your opinion at the town hall meetings NDGF holds and talk to your local ND legislature reps.

Anyone know when this law was put into place? Without any further facts, gut feel it seems years ago many of these "any deer" tags were purchased by a mix of whitetail and mule deer hunters. They didn't sell out until later in the year.

Now they are gone right away and one can assume almost all are used by mule deer hunters out west.

let me rephrase then. What in the fuck is the legislature thinking allowing more deer licenses to be sold to non residents?

That pissing you off isn't as important to their future as greasing the palms of NR's and outfitters.

30% success rate? Too high, I'd bet more like 10-15%.

You will never get an honest number, but don't overlook the wound/kill/unrecovered amount. I hear of plenty of this and can only guess the additional amount that never get talked about.

It cant be ignored for management of mule deer archery tags. There are plenty of opportunities to sling arrows in open country at 60-100yds. Or even closer range but at bad angles or running deer.

Im not saying NR do this as a higher percentage than residents.

The state gave out 4,000+ RIFLE tags last year that probably had an 80%+ success rate and you're worried about 600 archery tags? Not to mention all the resident archery tags. ND is very stingy with their NR tag allocations. Most other states are 10% with some higher. I don't understand the hate on NRs.

I agree . We give NRs virtually no gun tags so 600 any tags is no big deal . I do think we should limit the number of NR whitetail archery tags tho . How many of those get sold ?
