To me school's should have the same security as a damn military base. Make it nearly impossible to get in or out. The problem I'm sure is funding, so many schools out there.

I agree with the first part, make it much harder to bring a damn gun into the school and protect the building like Fort Knox. However, I'd argue we should make it easier to get out. Kids trapped in a classroom during an active shooter scenario is a recipe for disaster.

Maybe we need doors connecting classrooms to safely move away from danger without being seen, exit slides for upper stories, impenetrable doors from hallways, or other ways to get out quickly. I understand it would take funding, but so do tanks and aid to Ukraine, illegal immigrants, and countless other endeavors our government shouldn't be part of.....

Last I heard, we as a nation aren't reproducing at nearly the rate we used to. Kids are even MORE precious than the gold protected at Fort Knox. Maybe we should treat them as such.

Politicians are all the same. They just have different methods of laundering tax payer dollars into their own pockets. Here in ND they are no different. I'll give 2 examples: Wind energy is clean and cheap. Absolutely not. But the farms keep getting put up. Why? Tax payer dollar laundered through these companies that are farmers of the wind. The 2nd and biggest scheme in the last number of years that doesn't include a war is this CO2 pipeline. This is blatant. They can't even come up with a reason how it will benefit us. At least wind they could lie and say it's cheap and clean. Ask yourself how does CO2 benefits the people of ND?

As Ive mentioned before, Im a long time teacher. I would be fine with a teacher(s) having a gun. I think they call it a school sentinel? It's not something we want to do or looking for but....we have to have a way to protect the kids. Like that one recent shooting where the gunman broke open the door and kids were under their desks. He shot and killed 19 I think? Absolute sitting ducks. I would prefer to have a puncher's chance. Maybe I could save a few kids?? Plus, my own kids are in this building....I will do ANYTHING to protect them as well. And should have that right. A sentinel works where staff and students alike don't know which teacher(s) have access to a gun. It is locked away somewhere and only a few in building know who has access to it. These are just my thoughts. Maybe I'm not right.

How do you feel about SEL in education? Have you watched any of the content James Lindsay puts out related to the direction education in america is going on youtube? Are you seeing a significant push towards implementing SEL in ND?

Well Im in SD and haven't heard a lot of that at this point. There has been some investigations by committees etc, but I'm not sure I really have an opinion. ...yet. It is a shame to me that this has to even be considered but it's not the world I grew up in. We (I) have to adapt and change. Again, I am aware of this idea but not real versed in it as it hasn't been promoted vigorously yet. Off the cuff opinion is that it may be a good idea to at least explore. What can it hurt? Kids have so many issues now days that a general classroom teacher doesn't know how and shouldn't have to handle. However, don't throw it in the teacher's lap. Bring in and/or hire higher specialist that their jobs require this education and training. Sorry not a better answer.

I looked it up a little as well. It is nothing new, just called different things in each state. The principles are good and appropriate but can be a little too woke if you let it.

Another thing if you want to change things is make it an automatic federal felony if a unsecured firearm is used in a mass shooting. Holding irresponsible gun owners accountable for unsecured firearms especially when we already know that majority of these kids who end up using these firearms to commit mass shootings come from irresponsible gun owners. These kids can't legally buy these guns so making others an example to not what to do with a unsecured firearm would really get some attention, because nothing makes responsible gun owners look bad then an irresponsible one.
