Any advice to keep a new cedar deck stained for seeing the best natural appearance?

No color or paint type. Just a clear type to keep it natural looking.

Lindseed oil is what I've used to protect pine posts to keep the natural wood color and yet protect them from insects and water. Might not work on a deck as well, but my fence looks good.

I would try to find something that is high in UV protection. Sun is killer on decks. As KDM stated , linseed oil will probably be the best for keeping wood from drying out but no idea how it wears with foot traffic.

One step closer to the end.
Don't know if you are even considering a varnish product.
But if so, you could consider a spar urethane.

Somewhat unrelated but I use it on all of our wood, interior trim on our windows. I am not disappointed.

Google best finish for outdoor wood products.

Spar Urethane

Spar urethane is a clear, protective finish that is resistant to water, UV rays, and temperature changes. It is ideal for outdoor furniture that is exposed to extreme weather conditions. However, it can be difficult to apply and may require sanding between coats. Examples of spar urethane include Minwax Helmsman and Rust-Oleum Marine Coatings.

Lincoln, kinda...
I would second Thompson's Water Seal. It's good stuff and easy to apply.

That being said, it's a natural cedar deck. Eventually it will age and weather accordingly. What I have found to work really well on reviving aged cedar is TSP (trisodium phosphate cleaner). I think you can still find it. Spray it on with a weed sprayer, let it sit for 10-20 minutes and then lightly pressure wash the deck with another application of Thompson's a few days later as it dries out.

We put 2 coats of some expensive stain on our deck. I think it comes in clear? Simmons was the brand name. After the 2nd coat a year after we put 1st coat on, and wow is it water resistant!!

Reviews on Thompsons are really not that great. I have seen some total failures with that product. A good semi transparent stain normally is the best with a southern exposure. One coat on the floor and do it correctly. Live with it. Oil is probably the best. Although water based stains work well but never on the floor. I have seen many failures with staining of decks. The best advice is to keep it up.

I went with mineral-based synthetic - the thought of maintaining cedar or other natural product throughout the years gave me the willies.

We had a large cedar deck on our last home. Used Penofin clear sealer (recommended by builder) when we built it. Sold the house 9 years later and deck looked like new. It was north exposure which made a difference but it took a beating each & every summer.
