Not where I'd like to be
It's mainly just a data center housing hundreds (thousands?) of computers that do all the actual processing when you ask (for example) Copilot, Chat GPT, Grok, or whatever to do something.

It doesn't take many people to manage them, so aside from the initial construction, actual job creation is pretty low. Not exactly a long-term win for the area...

Why do we want/need these facilities in ND??? Shouldn't they be closer to the big users???
May need to be near Obama's 800 million dollar library.
The reality is that things which consume power are being built at a much faster pace than things which produce power in the country. These facilities search out places in the country that have excess power capacity. North Dakota is one of those few places. Historically, North Dakota has exported 70% of the electricity it produces. With the demand for "green" power to the east we are left with excess power produced by our coal plants that have decades of life left in them. That leaves North Dakota a prime spot to build data centers, manufacturing, etc. This will just be one of many projects you see built in the coming years.

They like not having to air condition the buildings from October to May. So they like our winters...that and the complete lack of people to call BULLSHIT and protest. This all started with Ed Schafer begging business and people to come here instead of trying to keep our own kids here to get an education and start businesses.

on the bright side, when AI becomes sentient and more intelligent than humans, hopefully it will see the benefit of protecting its brain centers and keeping the humans in those locations happy, or maybe it will just eliminate us because it might see us as a threat.

Realize that that the Ellendale project is just getting started. Phase II will be a 1 million sq/ft facility directly west of the current build. They have plans of adding another 6-8 such facilities.

As for Harwood, just wait. The traffic on 94 and 81 is going to explode (on top of the Data center, the Amazon is getting another huge addition/facility that breaks ground in September, too).

When the precast starts coming, it's nonstop semis from dawn to dusk. That road in Ellendale was just a goat track next to a marsh. They had to rebuild it daily.

Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth

Maybe invite the company to build in Bismarck instead ? There is a reason these projects fly under the radar .

  • Increased energy costs: AI-driven data centers consume enormous amounts of electricity. Research on crypto mining has shown that high energy consumption from data centers can significantly raise electricity costs for local residents and small businesses.

Do not forget the water demands of these facilities. These facilities demand copious amounts of water for cooling processors. Where will that come from in a semi arid climate? More pipes from Sakakawea?

^^^^^^^^^ Great question! The politicians never think ahead. They just puff their chests out and say look what we are doing for you. Never thinking of the long term problems.

Same with the Maga dairy farms. What you get is pollution and it requires TOO much water.

Brown outs and power outages sound peachy in winter for those dependent on electricity for heat. Who gets priority for electricity needs I wonder? Machines or People? Would they put these machines on hold and route power to homes should the need arise?

Direct commissions have and do happen all the time, in every branch of the US military and have happened since the very first military unit was formed on this earth. If you have special knowledge on a subject and they need it, they will make you an officer. A really good example would be when your dad was VP and got your smarter, less crack headed twin brother Hunter a direct commission in the Navy JAG corps. Surprised you do not remember that, but it was less than a year because he tested positive for cocaine and was discharged and your not very smart. Oh, and Lt. Colonel has to be promoted TWICE to be a Brigadier General. Idiot.
