What is the go to plastic in the race when jigging? I always thought fluke style but personally have done way better with paddletails. Also, I had another fisherman this weekend tell me at the cleaning station he heard government bay ramp is closing due to constant silt build up. Find that hard to believe but as f'd up as the world is today, who knows.

Yeah buddy serious fisherman are more tied to there fish sequence than there old ladies no shit. They run it like never see were I'm at what I'm using or what I'm doing to get them . Bottom line hard-core fish people are tight lipped. The reason bieng anyone with a boat that knows how to fish could be there. There is also the other when u dont bring fish to the cleaning station because boats saw where u were thats the a epitome of fishing syndrome. I dont say it's selfish or not but people with there spots it's like. Very very confidential.

So I'll tell the truth because I'll never drive that far to fish nothing. But a guy goes out of garrison and is on the salmon this was Monday. Deep i think.

people are selfish, theres no doubt about it. My daughter was dating a guy for like 4 years and he would take her fishing with him and he made her promise not to tell me where they were catching fish. Kinda pissed me off really, its ridiculous how greedy some bastards are.

Control freak..would tell daughter to run...and run fast.
yeah, they broke up and shes better for it. Evidently him and his friends had some kinda sacred pact that they would keep everything hush hush. I can see if you are relying on fishing for survival maybe, but when its just for fun, thats stupid.

@Lycanthrope - I respect your opinion, but I can see if from the other side as well... I have given two people consistently factual fishing reports over the last five years because people are a$$holes. Am I purposely trying to hide information - I guess you could say so. Am I simultaneously trying to avoid several small, prairie pothole lakes from being dismantled as the words spread like a wildfire... absolutely, because I've seen it happen on some of my favorite lakes.

So yes, I am selfish to the unknown fisherman I see at the ramp and yes, I will be selfish to 95% of my friends because I'm putting in the hours doing what I love and my kids and I are reaping the rewards. What those boat ramp jockey's and friends don't see is the countless hours on my boat searching for fish, learning new structure, trying new techniques, and sometimes getting blanked while they're sitting on their lawn chair or barstool sucking down drink after drink wondering why I don't ask them to join me on the boat. I'm not throwing everyone into this bucket as I understand there are others who can't commit the time that I do. Totally understandable, but I'm still not going to give them anything but wrong info.

My friends are great, certainly not complaining about them, but there are priorities to life and I view protecting my hobby and it's resources for my joy and my kids joy over others casual day at the lake. It's no different than a landowner not allowing access and baiting deer aside from the fact that I can't hunt for those deer while any Tom, Dick, or Harry can fish the lakes I fish.

I have kept less than a limit of walleye this entire boat season because I don't need the fish and I have plenty for when I do want to eat it.

Holy schlitz, rant over. Get out and enjoy your hobbies people!

I can see keeping it to a smaller group to an extent, but half the time the lakes end up winterkilling or whatever, its good for the public to get a chance to use public resources also. If a lake gets fished out, in a year or two another lake will be hot. Id rather others have fun and take kids out etc than just keep it to myself. I dont typically advertise good fishing on huge facebook groups, but I will give friends and family and even strangers tips if they ask me when Im out, if Im catching fish and they are struggling. Im to the point where I get as much joy out of watching others catch fish as I do catching them myself, sometimes more, depending who it is.

I will help people out but im not going to hold hands and give exact locations. People always want to go hunting but then when its time to go scouting its radio silent. Just want me to burn my gas and time and then take them out if thats the case i might as well be a guide.

This could have been future son in law..not some random dude at the ramp. Simple hey indont care if you tell your dad but can you ask him to keep it hush hush would have been ok imo. They stillnhave to catch the fish and get thwm in the boat...aometimes its not so easy as to just say they are overe there.

^^^ 100% ^^^ Now on Lake Oahe I'll give pretty specific information as it's a very huge body of water and fish will move in and around to new points or structure anyway. But it can make a huge difference if you head 5 miles north of town or 5 miles north. Anyway back to your daughters boyfriends situation. I bet he's glad, especially now, that he told her not to reveal his spots.

Amen brother. Know a few guys like that...they call Friday afternoon "hey are you hunting this weekend?" me: "yeah I think so" them "where are you gonna go?" me "I'm not sure, maybe so and so, you been out scouting any?" them "no I haven't had time." We certainly all have times where we need to rely on others but it gets old if it's all the time.

In my early 20's I had a girlfriend who knew better than to tell her Mom's boyfriend where and how many fish, geese, etc. I got. That MFer was well known to the local landowners as a POS who'd do anything to steer the geese his way.
