I’m guessing you are in the eastern part of the state. You won’t see a black field over winter here. Those guys out there love their tillage. By all accounts it seems deer are making a bit of a come back. That is without crp and habitat cause apparently that’s all gone. My guess is that the nice couple winters have a lot to do with it.
Bacon, do I recall that you’re in/near Logan county?

I hunted 2I from ‘88-2018. Couple family members passed away and traditions have changed and now I hunt further West. Still have plenty of family S of Jamestown and I get to Bismarck pretty regular. Plenty of black fields in that country.

2I and 2H are better and are literally right across the highway from 2G2 and 2G1.

Difference? You have the hills in 2I and 2H so you have some big ass pastures and sloughs nobody BURNS!!

2G2 couldn’t give enough doe tags away back in the days of multiple tags!!

Pretty sad.

Talk to someone in Montana and deer numbers are horrible all the nr coming and shooting the 3 year old Mule deer and elk grounds are crowded and over run with grizzlies and wolves . Wyoming same thing . Idaho same thing. Funny you get the same story from every states residents.
Just wait till the ND wolf population takes off. I'm sure the NDGF will tell you there aren't that many but between people I know in various areas of the state and around my home area I can tell you right now there are more than people realize.

Yesterday a ranch out by Medora that does lodging posted a trail cam picture of a wolf. He posted the picture along with some deer and coyote for size comparison. It was for surely a wolf.

Everyone can bang the habitat drum all they want but take a pack of 4-7 wolves and see what happens in a 20mi circle. Rabbits, deer, elk, etc don't climb trees to sleep at night.
