Lets hypothetically say im buying a cheap boat from a private party and they have no registration or that title card. What's a guy supposed to do?

I purchased a used boat several years ago with same situation. I checked with Game & Fish and was told that titles are not required in ND. Was instructed to provide Game & Fish with a bill of sale reflecting the hull serial number and serial number of motor. G&F was able to provide registration with that info. Was several years ago so not sure if anything has changed.

Thanks I forgot about hull number. What if seller isn't the same as last guy it was registered too?

I didn't say that lol. BUT hypothetically, if a guy has a boat that some other dude just left at his place for 20 years and it's worth say $500 then what?

File off the last 2 digits of the hull number and BAM, brand new number that's never been registered before.

If its a MN boat coming into ND, you must provide a title with a bill of sale or the MN registration with a bill of sale. I just went through this with NDG&F.

I have a co worker going through this right now. He is trying to register an inflatable (think zodiak) that is 10ft long and has a motor plate on the back. No Hull ID number. He has tried for the last year off and on and gets the run around.

And what if guy who left it there has passed away?

Write a number on it with a black marker and take a picture of it.

Damn Rowdy if it's only worth 500 did you have to knock him off?? ...rofl...
There's a lot of old Aluminum boats sitting around. The bathtubs transom is scary. I have a 2013 15hp 4-stroke Yamaha I bought brand new. Just trying to decide if it's worth the hassle

I have a 1850 Tyee with a 150 on it. I purchased it from a guy in N.D. and when I registered it in MN. I was told MN don't send title out for 18.5ft or smaller.

Sounds painful. My first ever fishing boat was a cheap aluminum (booger)... still have it. Anyways, it was registered to an old man who had passed. I was buying it from his sons, but needed their mothers signature on the bill of sale. I'm only guessing it would've gotten increasingly more painful if she weren't alive.

1. Strip it down to bare metal
2. Remove any identifying features
3. Purchase and immediately return the required amount of marine aluminum alloy to make said boat, keep reciept for next step
4. Claim it was homemade and get game and fish inspection done
5. Register boat
Might be fraud idk

Or don’t buy potentially stolen shit
