As of recent in the last 3 weeks I have seen 3 small hatch's. Two I think must of been late as the chicks were really small. One group of 5 really little ones. They didn't even try to fly. The other ones were a little bigger and flew a short distance. There were 9 in that group.
They are my second favorite game bird. Number one is Ruffed Grouse of coarse.
Anyone seeing many hatches around?

Grand Forks. Spend some time up in Pembina County as I am working on cleaning grave stones in a couple of Cemeteries up there.

Huns seemed to have a really good hatch in my area. North Central part of state. Lots of pasture and grasslands here. Grouse seem like a poor hatch. See some grouse with just 2 or 3 chicks, others with more, quite a few with none. Turkeys also seemed to have a poor hatch and just seen one hen the other day with a hatch of really late ones. Probably the size of a tennis ball. A few pheasants around but haven't seen any with babies. They still haven't recovered from the back to back blizzards a few years ago. Ducks all seemed to have amazing hatches.

Had a group pop up out of the tall grass by my shop a few weeks ago and surprised the heck out of me. We don't see them very often in my area.

There are huns in Williams county but no where to hunt. Those little birds i to thought use trap loads for them an have wiffed with 3 shots before in strong wind started using pheasant loads an hard to catch up to them but usually get 1 . Best iv done withe huns is a grpund rake think i got 5 an some i belive was the pebbles killing them from the ground.

Also big one is dont flock shoot them. U rarely kill them if u pick one out of the flock u might drop 2 or 3 imo.

I’m a bit confused or perhaps you are.. my dog has nuts, he doesn’t go into heat and me inquiring about a bitch Britt to sire a puppy through him isn’t about tomorrow.. I appreciate the compliment on the dog, he’s special too me for sure.

I got a couple huns on opening weekend that were just barely dry from having hatched. But, a buddy flushed the flock and those were the only 2 that flew close enough.

Prior to pheasant season, my shotguns have Cyl chokes and I shoot 20Ga AA/Fiocchi target loads in 8's or occasionally 7.5's.

When pheasant season opens, it's still a 20ga, but, I swap over to 1oz #5's and IC chokes. It's fairly rare that I move to a 12Ga before Thanksgiving. Once I do move to a 12 it's still an IC choke but 1 3/8Oz of 4's or 5's.

I could probably stand to learn a lot about the finer points of the scatter gun. I grab what I have with whatever choke that I have in it, grab what I have for shells and off I go. I have been trying to play around with different shot size some and different brands but that is sometimes because its what I decided to buy at the time. I have found that I miss about the same with cheaper ammo as I do with the fancy expensive ammo.
