    Field dressing a deer

About 3 years ago I started quartering the deer in the field rather than bringing them home and tying up in the garage. It is so much easier to skin and quarter in the field than it is to hang them. Plus you can fit everything in a cooler and put on ice right away so you don't have to worry...

    Deer hunting around Finley, Cooperstown

Wow. Guess I will have to really, really research a subject before I ask a question on here so that I don't offend anybody. Wirehair, I'm sorry to have offended you. In my uneducated mind, I didn't think that making an observation was equal to declaring it as fact. But I guess I am wrong...

    Deer hunting around Finley, Cooperstown

Sorry KDM. Sounds like this is a touchy subject for you. I was only looking for a spot closer to Grand Forks to possibly go hunting with my daughter next year. From what I saw, there was very little fenced land and very few 'no hunting' signs. Made me think that maybe there was an area where...

    Deer hunting around Finley, Cooperstown

It's a serious post. Sorry. I've never paid attention to anything related to hunting in this area. Completely new to me. I guess I live a pretty sheltered life hunting my whole life around my fathers farmstead.

    Deer hunting around Finley, Cooperstown

I drove back from Grand Forks to Bismarck last week and took the scenic route through Finley and Cooperstown. Just from driving on the highway, one thing that stood out to me is that I saw very few 'no hunting' signs and it looked like great deer country. I got to thinking that maybe next year...

RAPALA Rip Raps (and other like style lures)

I've bought some ripping raps and used them with no success. However some people have done well with them. Just heard a report through the grapevine that there was some great success in Deepwater bay using these. Found schools of smelt in 50 feet of water and dropped them down. Ended up...

    Where are all the elk?

We noticed the same thing with mule deer this year. Last year we took the kids to the badlands area for a youth tag. Must have seen 400 deer that weekend. This year with the same conditions (rain) in the same area we maybe only saw 40 in two weekends. I'm sure they are around but we couldn't...

Time Magazine 100 best towns in USA

http://time.com/money/collection/best-places-to-live-2017/ Kind of surprised Williston made it on the list at #81. I've never been too impressed with Williston but then again I haven't been there for years. Dickinson is #6 and Bismarck #25.

Anybody looking forward to dove hunting?

I am. I enjoy it more and more every year. Love sitting on a lawn chair near a water hole in the evening waiting for those little buggers to fly over.

    Anybody watching Norsemen on Netflix?

This one caught me off guard. It's a Game of Thrones meets Monte Python meets Wayne's World. Even my kids (who grew up watching the crap sitcoms on Disney and Nickelodeon) thought it was funny and wanted to watch more episodes.

When is the last time you saw a monarch?

Have a bunch of milkweeds growing near my house and it got me thinking when the last time I saw a monarch butterfly. I'm thinking it has been at least ten years, maybe more. Use to see a lot of them growing up.

    Kayaking the Missouri

Yes, Washburn to Bismarck in one day isn't fun. Make it a three day event. If you want to have any kind of fun on the river, I would suggest no more than 10 miles per day for an average person. That way you can get out and relax on the sandbars.

Total Eclipse: Fun Fact, Aug 21

In Bismarck, we definitely noticed it getting darker. Kind of a weird glow outside.

    Can this dent be removed?

Looking at buying a used car for my daughter. Saw this one that had a large dent in the door. Is this kind of dent something a person could pull or push out at home?

Buying a smoker - need help

I want to buy it to make jerky (instead of using a dehydrator) but I think I would like to also use it to make ribs or smoke fish or sausage. And if not too steep of a learning curve make other things.
