Hey all,

So I buddy of mine ended up finding a deal on 22 ammo a little awhile ago so I had him pick me up a few rounds. Problem is, the woman found the ammo and asked what it was for. I had to tell her I don't own a 22 yet...she wasn't all that impressed, but I told her it now gives me a reason to go buy one. ha So now im looking for one. lol... Im looking to just go plinking with and maybe shoot the occasional gopher that runs thru the yard. Not looking to spend a crazy amount, I already have a 17hmr that I love and shoot often.

Any suggestions on a decent priced/ best bang for your $$ plinking gun?

TIA,

Anyone who doesn't have a ruger 10/22 Should go buy one yesterday. First things first. Then explore other options.

Every young man should own a Ruger 10/22 at some point.

Ruger 10/22 you cannot go wrong and there is so much you can do with them. I even converted one to an AR look alike.

Marlin bolt with tube feed and micro groove barrel would be my second choice after ruger 10/22. Have one in 22 mag and she is real sweet out to 100 yards.

Can't beat a Ruger 10-22. Get that first. Then a Savage A22, Marlin 39 lever, Browning lever, followed up with a Henry.

Ruger 10/22 hands down. But if you want the best go looking for a nylon 66 (butt load) greatest 22 ever made. IMO

Agree with the 10/22 but knew a girl when I was young who's dad had the sweetest Browning .22 auto. Loaded from the side of the butt stock. That was either the funnest .22 I ever shot or it just gave me a chance to spend more time at her house. It was a win/win situation.

Ruger 10/22 of course. My little semi auto can empty my 25 round mag. in a flash.

My old man has a lever action that is around 40 years old. Just can't quite get him to release his grip on that one. Uncertain what the brand is but that is my favorite gun by far.

I would 2nd the m&p 15-22 they are blast to shoot and accurate as hell. I have a Ruger 10-22 but my dad picked up the m&p a couple years and put an eotech sight on it and if I were to start over I would definitely be looking at that route.

10/22 or if you don't want a semi auto get a henry lever .22. older pump action guns are also fun.

I think someone allready mentioned the 10/22. As a adult a good lever or bolt interests me the most. Out of every gun I own the Walther g22 gets the most use. There is something about dropping the clip and throwing the back up in that everyone enjoys.

Not sure how much amo you bought but a kid will blow threw 500 rnds of .22 in a day with a good semi. Worth every penny though.

I have a Ruger 10/22 with a carbon Volquartzen barrel, after market stock, Volquartzen trigger group etc, but my favorite 22 is a bolt action with a threaded barrel. I have a Marlin 39A also and a guy just needs at least one lever action. A 22 depends on what you like to shoot. If you like to blow ammo a stock 10/22 is ok, but mine always jammed. So it's the steel lips 25 round and aftermarket barrel for accuracy. If you want nostalgia then get a lever. If you want accuracy get a bolt. If you want semi-auto anything and good accuracy you will have to customize. To define accuracy I would say less than 1/2 inch at 50 yards. In a 22 that is very dependent on ammo.
