A mention of upgrades on the 10/22 reminded me that I did replace the trigger. Wasn't expensive at all and made a world of difference. Don't know the exact weights but it's like going from about a 6-7# pull to a 3. And so much smoother. Smooth triggers are one of the first requirements of accuracy.

10/22's are great for plinking and loads of fun to build or customize your own. If you do nothing else to a stock 10/22, at least replace the trigger pack. I recommend Kidd. I promise you won't stop there.

I also like my Remington 597. I put a Jard single stage trigger in as the factory one is rather heavy. Mine has a short threaded barrel (no can yet). Which makes it a light handy little rifle. Its quite accurate and is my rifle that comes with on the snare line.

My all time favorite though is my Marlin model 57 lever action with a tube mag.

Remington 581/582's may have been the last GREAT cheap 22. They're stupid accurate and were relatively cheap.

Remington Nylon 66 getting a little costly now, but you can't beat them, and the Ruger 10/22

Replaced the triggers and buffer in both my 10/22. The buffer is a little cross pin that the action hits when fired. New one has a rubber coating. It takes the clink out of action when fired.

I noticed in runnings for sale flyer they had a mosburg 22 for $115. Is that one of those guns u get what u paid for?

I would 2nd the m&p 15-22 they are blast to shoot and accurate as hell. I have a Ruger 10-22 but my dad picked up the m&p a couple years and put an eotech sight on it and if I were to start over I would definitely be looking at that route.

I have thought about the m&p. I have one in the .223 caliber and thats prolly my favorite gun. Dang thing is a tack driver and a mean prairie dog killer. Might have to add the 22 cal into its family, and a 308 down the road.

Ruger 10/22 hands down. But if you want the best go looking for a nylon 66 (butt load) greatest 22 ever made. IMO

While I have 3 Ruger 10-22's my favorite rifle is the Remington nylon 66, I've got 6 of them. I've had one since the mid 60's and have shot at least 100K rounds through it with no problems.

It's hard to beat a 22LR for lots of fun shooting and hunting rabbits and squirrels. If you buy an autoloader make sure you can get inexpensive, reliable magazines for it before you buy,

That Mossberg is essentially a re-branded Marlin 60. They work until they don't.

I own multiple 22s, but my favorite is the Henry. Takes you back in time with every shot.

Thank all for the inputs and advice.. i ended up Finding 2 i liked a lot.

I bought the savage mark2 fxp with a buschnell 3x9x40 scope. The next one im gonna go back and buy is the Henry lever action one. That way it matches my 17hmr. Im not a huge fan of semi autos and thats why i didnt go with the ruger 10/22.

I picked Up a Henry with shorter stock on it and my son loves shooting with it...we made quick transition from Red Rider B.B. gun to Gamo pellet gun to Henry.22. Fun stuff!

I have a Ruger 10/22 that's a touch over 40 yrs old. My dad was a firm believer in "more shots means better shooter", so I NEVER had to beg for ammo. I can't even count all the times I'd go to the range and go through two 500 ct bricks.

Anyhow, the Ruger needs some work now. A broken part, and I haven't gotten around to getting it fixed (sidenote, anyone in Bismarck/Mandan work on Ruger?).

My dad (82 yrs old now) bought a Lever Henry .22 last fall. Hasn't fired it yet. Spring hurry up!

Back in the early '70's I had a pretty little 10/22 that was so incredibly accurate it was scary. Put a 4x Weaver scope on it and it would shoot into one hole unless I sneezed while aiming. My favorite targets were blackbirds at the top of a swaying cottonwood tree. Just leaned up against the corner of the barn and popped one after another. They never knew what hit them or where it came from. Some a-hole stole it out of my pickup one night and if anything would have drove me to murder that was it. Never loved a gun more than that little Ruger.
