Are there many 25.06 shooters here? I picked up a lightly used browning xbolt in this caliber. Nice gun. I plan on using it for deer this year. See if I like it. Am planning on shooting 117g hornady superformace. I have been having decent groupings. Wondering if anyone else shoots this caliber and grain? If so what has been results on game? thanks

I used my dad's 25-06 until I bought my deer rifle. He still uses it and honestly, probably one of the best calibers for all around hunting. Very flat shooting and has enough knock down power for a wide array of animals.

I load for a couple. The 117 sierra game kings it kills. I would never buy one but thats just me. I like the 6mm,6.5 and 7mm they just do every thing a little bit better.

I also used to use my dads 25-06 as a kid until i bought my own hunting rifle which ended up being a .270 but i loved that 25-06 very flat shooting and for me personally i would say that the 25-06 is the best gun out there to use for whitetail, im sure others will disagree but i also shot 117 grain in the remington core lokt but since i have switched to a .270 all i've shot out of that is hornady SST, so im sure you would be fine with the superformance. One day i will have another 25-06 in my arsenal!

I have a 25-06 in the Ruger M77 with medium bbl and I can't say enough good about it. It drives tacks and when I shoot it at an animal they always die. I shoot 117 Sierra Game Kings or Speer Hot-Cor. Over the counter Federal ammo shoots so good out of it, I never found the need to hand load. But then again, I am not a gun nerd.

Great great great gun/caliber. My brother has a custom built from 25 years ago that drives tacks. Many fox were shot with it.

Did any of them speak before they were shot?

I bought when I was in Highschool and it was a very accurate , fast, flat and fun to shoot, I had bad luck with it for deer hunting but it wasn't the guns fault, All I could get my hands on back then was factory ammo with Positive expanding point bullets. If I didn't happen to catch a rib bone on the way in it wouldn't expand very well and it was spooky to see how far a deer could run even with a well placed shot. Had I found better ammo back then I might still be shooting it.

It's been said that there have been more deer shot in these hills with a 30-30 than any other caliber. :;:stirthepot

I bought my Browning A-Bolt 25-06 when I was 17 (now 36) and have loved it. I have shot Nosler partitions (real good luck), Sierra Game Kings (didn't care for them), and now Hornady SST's (I love them) All 117 grain. Every deer that I have touched, not always perfect placement, has dropped in its tracks. Also hoping to put a lot of dogs on the ground this winter with some V-Max, I believe 85 grain. The one that was shot with them looked good, small hole in and small hole out.

Anything under a 7mm rem mag is like pissing into the wind for deer. Just not enough knockdown power....

Anyone know where i can buy some low recoil rounds for my .338? I have a little cousin who wears glasses that needs to borrow my .338 for his youth deer hunt.

I've shot a Remington 700 25-06 for the last 10 years. Typically shooting Hornady 117. No issues thus far.

not sure if any of you guys ever get on 24hourcampfire.com? They love the 25.06. Huge following over there. Many claiming they use for moose and caribou

Load up some 160TTSX, they knock deer silly at around 3300fps. If I remember correctly, I think I used varget. You could try a little faster powder or a lighter charge to get around the 2800fps velocity and keep recoil very manageable.

Used one a couple years ago. Was very impressed actually. Next one I buy just might be the 25-06. Just like they said flat, fast, and whatever you point it at dies. Don't let other people tell you otherwise. Some people bring up the knockdown power issues. I took one shot at 200 yds, bugger didn't walk an inch dropped in its place. Course shot placement matters.

IMO, 100gn TSX @ 3300ish maximizes the offering. R-22 get's you there. Very manageable recoil even in a lightweight package.

Did you say you were getting 3700 out of your .257 SD?
