None of the above. High to low. 30-06: can do anything, just nothing great. 270: boring, everyone has one. 25-06: it's like being a Jeep
owner, nuff said.

My hunting partner shot a deer in MT (where it's still legal) with his 50BMG last year. It was actually fairly uneventful. 270 for the Win!

I say .270, because I love the .270 and loathe the 30-06.

The 30-06 is the bearded lady of all .473" case-headed cartridges.

Whats your question? Looks like you made up your mind, or is this yet another thread to stir the pot?

mmm... I'm pretty sure SDMF genuinely cares what other people think about firearms.

just kidding - below is my rendition of SDMF (on the left) talking firearms with two NDA members on the right.

270........wsm

^^^^^^this^^^^^^

30-30 and 30-06 were 70’s and 80s calibers … then the .243 got some recognition along with the 308 … now it’s the 25-06 and .270 mostly because of the advancements in reloading to help get the max performance out of each caliber … for the armchair hunter it’s about what’s hipster trendy for the real shooter its about accuracy and performance … none of it really matters if your blind in one eye and cross-eyed in the other …

30.06 simply because of the loads available. Anywhere from 90 grain plinkers to 220 grain. And because the Nazi's and japs hated it.

Either one will take out any critter on this continent with a well placed shot at a variety of ranges. I've shot an .06 for 20 years with a lot of dead animals and no complaints of the caliber. One of these days I'm going to break down and try something new, however it will be hard not to grab the old .06 if something is needing killin. My search right now will be for an easy, light shooting, accurate gun for the boy who'll get his first deer tag next year. I'm sure he'll end up with something much nicer than I have, which seems to be the trend.

No one mentioned the 7-08 in this debate. The 7-08 has good knock-down, mild noise and recoil, good long-range capabilities (with-in reason), and works nicely for the females and kids. Oh--and did I mention: It drops a deer or antelope like a rock!

Aww Come on, man... if you are going to name one NDA guy in the picture, name them all... lol

When I was a youngster, I had an old fart inform me my 270 was a POS... He had shot a 270 load in his '06 and found the bullet laying in the snow... SMH
