Its a pointless argument between these two calibers, both will do whatever you want with a good shot, but if you can't shoot accurately you might as well throw rocks.

I can pretty much forgive the introduction of 7-08 into the discussion.

243 for deer guys should be banned and fined and censured for an enormous ethical violation.

6.5 Creedmore is a stupid fad like tight-rolling Jean cuffs or bell-bottoms.

270 Whoops the lot. 30-06 still blows.

Accutriggers suck fly-bite infected donkey nuts. Not a fan of 2-piece bolts, pinned bolt heads, or plunger ejectors either.

It's an 80+yr old unresolved argument comprised of hundreds of thousands if not millions of hunters/shooters worid-wide. I thought the collective intelligence contained within NDA could answer the question once and for all. Seemed like more fun than a neg rep thread or anything in the political section.

Edited to add:

Anyone who says 30-06 is flat-out wrong.

Haha. Tell us how you really feel.

This is a trick thread right??? one of those, I feel like starting chitz today on NDA...smh....personally, I have owned a 30-06 and the only two caliber rifles I currently have are 270 and 243, I have not shot a 6.5 creedmoor or a 25-06. I have shot a 7mm. Its all about what your are confident with and how accurate you are with it, doesn't matter the calibler. some guys have bad shoulder and can't take the mule kicking of some guns, some guys are just plain sharp shooters with whatever they got.......keep calm and chive on and shoot straight.

Yep, it's a trap, but I can't help myself...

27 is the red-headed step child caliber. Do we really need something between 6.5 and 7mm? I think not.
I think the guys at Winchester missed an opportunity when they decided not to neck it down a bit further to 26.

Oh, and:
-- 243 is the greatest of all 308-based cartridges and is my recommended load for cape buffalo and elephants.
-- You spelled Creedmoor wrong -- why does everyone want to put an 'e' on the end? -- and should be slapped upside the head with Hornadys "Handbook of Cartridge Reloading: 9th Edition".
-- The accutrigger was handed down to Savage by God himself.

Sorry, that was for SDMF

It is odd though. I've seen "Creedmore", "Creedmoore", and a few other variations, even from people that should know better, like Cabelas catalogs.

How's this spelling: 6.5 "Fad"moor

Accutriggers are for those who are completely unaware WTF a "good" trigger feel like. Hint: It doesn't feel like an accutrigger, nor anything approaching 2-stageish.

Fads don't last more than a few years and also don't have full factory support with multiple firearms manufactures building rifles. Add this to the .244 rem debacle as the.260 rem could have been what the creedmoor is years ago

I don't hunt with a 30-06, but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who appreciates the sport of hunting critters with combat rifles.

303deer.jpgMy 81-year old Grandpa Jim. Iron sights .303 British. Not an overall breathtaking deer, but Pappy can still knock them down!

I also like the .270WSM. It has taken many deer, coyotes, and an Alaskan brown bear. I also shoot the tried and true 30.06 that was a hand me down rifle (now with upgrades from when I received it). Both will do the job on any North American big game.

You killed a brown bear with a .270? Details please. How far a shot, round used, size of bear etc?

"You can kill anything in North America with a .30-06." -- My Grandpa

So my father bought me a Remington 700 in that caliber when I was 16. Seventeen years and 20-plus deer later, I can verify that it at least kills whitetails. I'm sure other creatures will succumb to the ought-six just the same if I'm ever offered the opportunity.

That said, all my deer have been killed inside 200 yards, and the vast majority inside 100.

After losing a day of hunting to heavy rain, the next day was clear and cool. The plan was to get in the boat and float/drift downstream and hunt as we went. From the river above camp, I spotted a lone light colored bear in the berries about two thirds of the way up the mountain and at least three miles away. The week before we got to camp, Waggs had spotted this same bear twice and had named it, "Ivory". We quicky got the boat back to shore and tied up and began our climb up the mountain to shorten the distance. Coming out on a nice elevated secondary ridge that faced the hillside we last saw the bear from, we took off our packs and began glassing for the bear. After about 10 minutes, Waggs said,"there's the bear". It had fed out into the open, above us at 371 yards. I put in 1 mil of elevation, snugged up, and when the bear was broadside, fired for the ribcage. We all saw the bullet impact the right side, followed by a solid sounding "thud". The bear spun and disappeared into the alders 20 yards below. George stayed put to keep an eye peeled for the bear getting by us as we climbed to the top and came in from above. The bear only made it 25 yards into the brush and was dead. The 130gr Swift Scirocco had done a perfect job, leaving a quarter sized exit hole on the offside. I'm getting pretty attached to that little .260.....grin!

I really hate caliber debates. Shoot what you're comfortable and accurate with. A well placed shot does the trick every time with the right bullet for the game. Seriously we hunt game with sharp sticks and strings! It's all shot placement and not shooting beyond the weapons capabilities.
