Any ice reports?

I know it’s early but I’m wondering if all this snow is crewing our ice formation, anyone done any ice checks yet? Even the old throw a big rock method, just curious and getting excited.

I'd say anything that is iced over now should be at least 3-4 '' by next weekend. I did see two walked out on Metigoshe yesterday.

I did see someone out on the west side of Sweet Briar today on my way back from Bismarck. No thank you for me....definitely needs to get a little thicker before you see my fat ass out there. Not worth losing your gear and possibly your life over a fish. I'm sure we'll see some "fails" in the coming weeks.

I checked 5 lakes in central ND on Saturday. Most of them were 1-2.5 inches of ice. I ended up fishing Audubon since I found 3" of ice there. That was only on a specific area of the lake though and the ice thickness varied when you got past 5ft of water. Most of Audubon was still open water at the time.

Guessing it was more concern of a safety factor with early ice, which I agree with. Plenty of time all winter to get the kids out.

Are kids not allowed to ice fish?

First week of ice taking toddlers out not wearing any type of floatation..I think it's irresponsible myself.

Smaller bodies should have a good 6" by this weekend I'd guess. Larger ones should have 4" around the edges at least.
