With the rainy days thought it would be a good time to get some ice fishing repairs done.. I have a big buddy heater that the thermocouple went out on.. has anyone have any experience replacing one? IS it a royal pain or not to bad? tryed calling the customer service but never any answers..

Thanks

I don't have a Big Buddy, but changing the thermocoupler on my sunflower heater is real easy. Basically loosen the nuts on the regulator and the sunflower head and remove the old coupler. Put the new one in and tighten. The biggest problem I have is getting the nuts on each side of the sunflower head tight enough so they will hold through the rigors of transport. I've resorted to lock washers on the backside to keep them tight.

I believe those also have an oxygen sensor on them that will shut off the propane. Acts just like the thermocouple isn't working.
Might want to check that also.

The pilot light works but when i let off it will go out.. I have put a torch to the coupler ( thingy by the pilot light) and then things work fine.. this makes me think that the coupler is out or limited function.. thoughts?

Scrot,
Youtube has a bunch of do it yourself fixes for the Big Buddy Heaters also. Maybe this will help to narrow it down and find the fix.

This is one of the reasons we don't use these where I live. I bought one and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work, I'm at 6800'. I gave it to a buddy of mine down in Phoenix and he loves it.
