So it looks like I'll be spending some quality time sitting on my ass soon. I was in the gun room digging out some books to read to help kill time. I found a few old favorites and a couple I haven't read before.

One on my favorite authors is Gene Hill, he writes some great bird hunting stories.

I'm open to some ideas on good books, what are your favorites?

In no particular order or genre, A Sand County Almanac, The Martian, Stephen Kings Dark Tower Series, the Game of Thrones series, Lamb (religious satire, reader beware but hysterical, A Confederacy of Dunces, World War Z, anything by Hemingway but specifically The Old Man and the Sea, Catch 22, Into the Wild, The Future of Freedom, The Post American World, Horn of the Hunter.... That should get you started. Talk to me again after the weekend.

Man-eaters of tsavo

Really good read. It's the book the movie ghost in the darkness was based on. Hunting man eating lions in africa.

The River Why (kind of like Catcher in the Rye for sportsman)
Atlas Shrugged (need to take it for what it is. Some people think it's the Bible)
Black Elk Speaks (considered a holy book of sorts amongst many natives in our region)
Indian Boyhood
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I used to have a babblefish. I killed it in my sleep. Sorry for a time then pressed.

Read this nearly twice illegally on post in 12hrs while guarding Bob Hope during Desert Shield:

th

After Bob left(and zero acknowledgement to me)and while awaiting his return to the compound; a goat showed. I had my nose in the book and a little "click clack" interrupted my complacence. I was at first a bit afraid of the effer then rapidly determined we were friends after tossing him MRE crackers. I wrote "354 SPS" and "Bob" on his horns as I determined he had a penis. "Bob" browsed/bedded around me for a few hours with an occaisonal ear scratch then wandered off in the desert.

This was Desert Shield/Storm and Sharpies were useful for this type shi'ite inside plywood shacks in the pre-internet era; like a truckstop phone number.

"Bob" was later an attempted gift to me at a different post and 10 miles from the original incident during Storm in a cold rain. A long time had passed--like 3 months: It was completely coincidental.

Col Sandy Sharpe was not amused OR an asshole when he approached my entry control point with maintenance pukes and I discussing this goat and it's disposition: Karma.

I haven't thought of this in years.

So 24, you have a lot of reading and covers to judge during your recovery.

I later was assigned to the main gate with a WW2 Model 12--King Fahd Airport (same place--the A-10's). Whatever. I had a relationship with a foreign goat and checked ID with a Model 12.

Bob Hope never returned. He just left me pining for the fjords and a friendly goat. I DID read an excellent book nearly twice before relief.

C. J. Box has a few stand alone books but the The Joe Pickett series is really good too .

Craig Johnson and the Longmire series is good as well .

Pining for the fjords?!?!?!

It's a damn page turner!

Slim reminded me of all that when he mentioned "Hitchhiker's Guide".

Have you read the prequel and the sequel? I have and they were nowhere near as good. The movie is descent but not what I pictured when I read it.

Also, pretty much anything by Dean Koontz
